Good day all. First a bit of house keeping. The Angry Systems Administrator tripped over a cable. The world didn’t end, and if you still think it will, I have a bridge in a swamp I would like to sell you. Now on to the topic at hand. Liberal Tyranny.
This ties in to some extent with my posting yesterday, Liberals an Civil Rights. Since the tragedy in Sandy Hook Connecticut, Liberals have been screaming for gun bans and confiscations. They have been happily aided by the Obama Steno Pool, formally known as the Main Stream Media. The liberals now see this as an opening to ram through their agenda, starting with gun bans and confiscation. First we have Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York. According to Infoworld, (Yes, I know, but this should be easily verifiable), Governor Cuomo told an Albany radio station that he plans to propose a package of draconian legislation during his State of the State address next month.
“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’” Cuomo said, according to the New York Times. “There is a balance here — I understand the rights of gun owners; I understand the rights of hunters.”
No, actually he doesn’t. Like all liberal politicians and not a few RINO’s, they cling to the belief that the 2nd Amendment has to do with hunting. I went into that yesterday. It doesn’t. If Cuomo goes through with his proposal, it will fly in the face of the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendments of the constitution. Then, of course, we have Michael Bloomberg. He recently stated that:
“I don’t think there’s anybody that’s defended the Second Amendment as much as I have, Ray,” Mr. Bloomberg said to a caller who asked him why he was “so against” the constitutional passage. “I think you have a perfect right to buy weapons and keep them for protection or for sport. We have tried to make sure that you have it. The Supreme Court says that there are–consistent with the Second Amendment–you can have reasonable restrictions, so, for example, you can’t buy a nuclear-tipped weapon.”
Now, we know this is a lie and that Bloomberg has hated and despised the 2nd Amendment for decades. He has sent out “investigators” to other states to go to gun stores and try to do straw purchases of guns. The goal was to get the store owners arrested and jailed. What happened was the BATFE landed on him for nearly wrecking several of their cases. (Probably Fast & Furious)
“I don’t think anyone should try to tamper with the Second Amendment,” Mr. Bloomberg explained. “There is a question as to what [in] the Second Amendment was written. You can read it to say they only talked about militias, or you can read it to say they wanted guns in your pocket. I don’t know, that’s up to you.”
Bloomberg, like all liberals believes that the 2nd amendment applies to the government, not the people. Pity the courts have said differently. I think that Bloomberg instinctively knows that the 2nd Amendment was written to provide the American People with the means to remove a tyrannical government, and that he long ago crossed that line into tyranny. However, he isn’t alone in that.
In the city of Paragould, Arkansas, the Mayor, Mike Gaskill and Police Chief Todd Stovall have announced that SWAT teams will be patrolling the street and stopping anyone who happens to be walking along and demanding their ID. Furthermore, the officers will be carrying automatic rifles. Here are a few details from the Paragould Daily Press:
In response to a recent increase in crime, Paragould Mayor Mike Gaskill and Police Chief Todd Stovall offered residents at a town hall meeting Thursday night at West View Baptist Church what could be considered an extreme solution — armed officers patrolling the streets on foot.
I don’t see a problem there. Putting foot patrols into trouble areas is a time honored way to cut down on criminal activity. Criminals tend to go elsewhere when police are visible. However, the problem here is that the Mayor and Police Chief are planning on doing far more.
“[Police are] going to be in SWAT gear and have AR-15s around their neck,” Stovall said.
The first question I will ask is why are they carrying rifles? Are they expecting a major shootout with criminals? Also, I doubt these are semi-automatic AR-15’s. Police forces generally have fully automatic weapons, generally M-16’s1 and various types of submachine guns2. However, that isn’t all.
“If you’re out walking, we’re going to stop you, ask why you’re out walking, check for your ID. They may not be doing anything but walking their dog,” he said. “But they’re going to have to prove it.”
No, they don’t have to prove anything.
Normally, police would not stop individuals for simply walking on the street, but Stovall said the level of crime in certain areas and concerns from residents gave his officers the right to institute the actions announced at the town hall event.
“To ask you for your ID, I have to have a reason,” he said. “Well, I’ve got statistical reasons that say I’ve got a lot of crime right now, which gives me probable cause to ask what you’re doing out. Then when I add that people are scared…then that gives us even more [reason] to ask why are you here and what are you doing in this area.”
Should an individual not produce identification, Stovall said his officers would not back down. Individuals who do not produce identification when asked could be charged with obstructing a governmental operation, according to Stovall.
And now you see the reasons for the 2nd Amendment. These two idiots have just declared the constitutional rights of anyone in their city have been revoked. Just because they have a crime problem isn’t any reason to cancel people’s civil rights. Now, I tried to find the party affiliation of this Nazi wannabe Mayor, but wasn’t able to. I’m guessing that he’s probably a democrat. I may be wrong and I fully expect AND desire someone to let me know so I can correct the record. As I said in yesterday’s posting, both parties have some problems with following the Constitution.
These are just the latest bits of information on how bad our government has become. These days we have the Patriot Act, (Some parts good, a lot that’s just wrong), FISA courts3, and recently The National Defense Authorization Act, or S. 1867 that allows the military to arrest and indefinitely hold without trial American citizens on U.S. Soil4.
So, tell me again why I don’t need a semi-automatic rifle and detachable magazines that hold 30+ rounds of ammunition?
Yeah, I thought as much.
