You may have noticed that the ads we run on this site, both the main site and the blog, have changed. Basically we ran ads from Amazon.com and had an ad service called Chitika. The Chitika ads used to have advertisements from specific clients along with graphics. about a week or so ago IO noticed they had gone to text only ads and seemed to be nothing more then links.
Since Chitika served the ads I just assumed there were some changes being done on the back end. Last week I found out just what sort of changes. I received an email from them stating that their customers were demanding that ads no longer be allowed on the following domains, namely angry.net
For all intents and purposes, Chitika has closed my account.
I contacted support to find out what was going on. I had been with the service and recommending them for almost 2 years. The message I got back was supportive, but that they had no choice, Their clients were the ones making the demands. They also said that it only affected the angry.net domain and that all my others could continue to use the Chitika ad service.
While I do have 2 other domains I maintain, one is extremely low traffic, and the other is a site I maintain for a charitable group. The latter doesn’t have any ads on it and the former isn’t worth putting any on since it isn’t viewed by many people.
Granted, Anger Central doesn’t rake in huge amounts of cash. Truth be told, I was barely covering the costs of hosting the site, and that only recently. The Amazon links haven’t generated anything in the last couple of years and no one has bothered to donate anything to Anger Central in quite a while. (I never expected anyone to, but I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained)
One of the reasons I selected Chitika was their location. They are not far from me and I could always go there if I had real problems. Do I plan to go there now? Nope. It isn’t worth the price of the gas. They’ve made their decision, (Wrong headed in my opinion), and nothing I say will change their minds. I”m just a teensy fish in a great big pond and I’ve just been dynamited. I will say they were nicer about this then Google’s Adsense. Chitika paid me what they owed while Adsense kept the money and falsely accused me of click fraud.
(And people wonder why I consider Google to be evil)
So, what am I going to do? Well, I’ve signed up with a few other services, I’ll be trying them out and seeing how they perform. Some of them may be a bit obnoxious and while I may try them as an experiment, I probably won’t use them. (One offers the use of a page flip. While it’s a cool effect, after a while it gets annoying)
I won’t be running porn ads on this site. While my standards are very low, surprisingly I actually do have some.
So please bear with me as I try to figure a way to pay for this site.
Thanks
