Thanks for nothing Disney

Good day all. If you are like about a bazillion other people, you like the Marvel Comic Universe, (MCU) movies. When Guardians of the Galaxy first came out, a number of “experts” thought it would flop. Just the opposite happened.

It turned out to be one of the bigger hits of the Marvel films. Next came Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and it was even more fun then the first. People everywhere were happily anticipating Guardians 3. Well, Disney, in fit of Political Correctness run amok, fired James Gunn over something he tweeted 10 years ago.

This resulted in a massive backlash from the fan base and the cast. Everyone was demanding that Gunn be rehired. Disney has announced their decision. They have suspended production of Guardians of the Galaxy. Here are some of the details from The Hollywood Reporter:

The production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is being put on hold for the time being as Marvel and Disney regroup on the project, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Sources say that crewmembers, which is, at this stage, a small group that was prepping for preproduction, are being dismissed and are free to look for new work.

The Marvel project was originally to have been directed by James Gunn and was to have begun principal photography in the winter, either in January or February. The project was crewing up and was to have gone into full preproduction mode in the fall.

But Gunn was let go as the director in July when old tweets were resurfaced in response to his vocal political posts. While some held out hope that the director would be given a reprieve by Disney, a mid-August meeting with Disney chairman Alan Horn closed the door on that.

Nice going stupid. I wonder what the shareholders in Disney are going to say now that you have torpedoed a potentially billion dollar movie over some words said 10 years ago?

One person characterized the production hold as temporary and more of a “regrouping” as Marvel and Disney look for a filmmaker to take on the third installment of a franchise that has grossed over $1.6 billion and made stars out of Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana.

“The timeline has been pushed out,” says a source. Disney never set a release date for Guardians 3.

First, Pratt, Saldana and Bautista were already stars. Second, this isn’t regrouping, it’s basically a cancellation. I’m not to sure how the contracts for these three are written, but it’s possible that if this is delayed to long, their contracts will expire and they can tell Disney’s Horn to go commit an aeronautical reproductive act at a rapidly rotating pastry.

When Marvel sold their film production company to Disney, many people were concerned that something might happen to ruin the films. We’ve already started seeing the quality of the Star Wars films drop thanks to Disney’s idiocy and greed. Now they may be on the way to murdering another wildly successful franchise.
