Review: Spry Oral hygiene products

Good day all. It’s time for a change of pace. Today I am reviewing some products I started using about 6-8 months ago on the recommendation of my dental hygienist. The products are made by a company called Spry.

For a bit of history in how I started using these products, we need to go back about a year. My dentist found some problems and I ended up getting some major scaling work done on my teeth and gums. This is not a pleasant process by any stretch of the imagination. When I went back for a follow up and some cleaning, my hygienist told me about Spry and recommended I stop using my current toothpaste and mouthwash.

She explained that the products we use, such as Colgate, Crest and others use some chemical that drys out the mouth, and that this didn’t help my periodontal problems. Per her recommendation, I bought a tube of Spry toothpaste and mouthwash at Whole Foods, the only store in the area that sells it. As expected, it was a bit pricey.

I’ve been using it ever since and now I can recommend it to others. Here is the reason. Last week I went in for a standard cleaning, and a few minutes in, my hygienist said “Oh MY GOD!” Needless to say, this is not what you want to hear. I started thinking about bulk buying Poligrip when she clarified what she meant.

She said that she had expected my usual staining on my teeth and some problems with one molar. (Which I expected) Instead there was no staining on my teeth at all, the expected problem with the molar not only wasn’t there, but had actually reversed itself to some extent. The only plaque she found was a few specks in areas I couldn’t reach.

It turns out that an additive into the major brands of toothpaste apparently causes teeth to be stained brown or yellow. For most of us, we would have assumed this was caused by drinking coffee. My hygienist’s research told her that the cause was the additive, and that this started being generally added about 20 years ago.

So, I would say that this is, at least in my case, pretty definitive. I stopped using my normal brands and went to Spry. My teeth are now in better shape then they have been in the last 15 years. Granted, I also, per my dentist and hygienist, made some changes in how I maintain my teeth, still, the complete lack of staining made my last cleaning far less uncomfortable then in previous visits. (they didn’t bring out the electric chisel and explosives)

You don’t have to go to Whole Foods to buy these products, you can also get them from Amazon.com. (Not surprising since Amazon owns Whole Paycheck Foods now) Click on the links or the images served up below and you will be taken to the products. Granted, your results may vary from mine, but I’m happy with what I have been seeing.
