The Great Panicdemic of 2020: Nutcase tries to ram USNS Mercy with a train

Good day all, The stupidity of people regarding the great Panicdemic of 2020 continues. Last week, some fool decided to try and ram the USNS Mercy, now docked in Los Angeles with a locomotive.

The USNS Mercy, like her sister ship, the USNS Comfort, has docked in L.A. to help take the load off the local hospitals. (She shouldn’t be needed, but we have Governor Moonbeam to blame) However, this is Kalifornistan, and the general mental stability of people out there is…questionable…at the best of times. In this case, some paranoid nutjob decided that the USNS Mercy wasn’t actually there to take care of sick people, and he tried to ram the ship with a railway locomotive. Here are the details from Fox News:

A train engineer intentionally drove a locomotive full speed ahead off the end of rail tracks near the USNS Mercy, which was docked at the Los Angeles Port.

Federal prosecutors charged Eduardo Moreno, 44, with train-wrecking, after allegedly admitting in two separate police interviews that he intentionally crashed the train because he was suspicious of the Navy hospital ship in the dock.

“Moreno stated that he thought that the U.S.N.S. Mercy was suspicious and did not believe ‘the ship is what they say it’s for,’” according to the criminal affidavit.

I’ve found a few pictures of the train wreck and it looks like the lunatic never got close to the ship. He did manage to run a fair distance, since there aren’t any tracks in the pictures I’ve found. As to why this nut did this? Well, let’s just say that Alex Jones would be proud of his reasoning.

Moreno expressed concerns to authorities that the ship had an alternate purpose than to assist with COVID-19 and was potentially linked to a government takeover and he derailed the train to “wake people up.”

You only get this chance once. The whole world is watching. I had to,” Moreno told investigators, according to the complaint. “People don’t know what’s going on here. Now they will.”

The locomotive wasn’t towing any rail cars, so this loser was able to get up a fair amount of speed. Those locomotives also weigh between 100-200 tons so this one had a lot of momentum built up. Still, the ship was never in any real danger, unlike people in the path of this thing.

The train stopped more than 250 yards short of the U.S. Navy Hospital Ship Mercy, which arrived in port this week to provide a thousand hospital beds to regional medical centers expecting a surge of COVID-19 patients. Nobody was hurt. However, the crash caused the train to leak fuel oil, which required clean up by fire and other hazardous materials personnel.

I’ve found another article that details Moreno’s alleged thought processes. According to Heavy:

In an affidavit filed by FBI Special Agent Douglas Swain, Moreno told the officer who arrested him, without provocation, statements such as, “You only get this chance once. The whole world is watching. I had to. People don’t know what’s going on here. Now they will. At night, they turn off the lights and don’t let anyone in. I’m going to expose this to the world. When was the last time you went to Dodgers’ stadium? We might not be able to go again.”

Granted, I agree that we’ve gone way to far in handling the Wuhan Flu, but I’m not going to try and ram a hospital ship with a train. (If this whackjob had actually hit the ship, he probably wold have sunk it) In any case, depending on what this yo yo was smoking, he’s looking at a good 20 years in a federal prison. Somehow, I don’t think President Trump will be in the mood to commute this jerk’s sentence.
