SEIU fighting to unionize Media Matters

Yes, you read the headline correctly. The Service Employees International Union, (SEIU), is trying to unionize that scion of hardcore left-wing progressive commentary, Media Matters. Media Matters is having none of it and is throwing roadblocks in front of the SEIU.

Somehow, I find it rather…amusing that to of the Progressive Liberal Elite’s favorite organizations are in the process of destroying each other. Here are some of the details from the Washington Examiner:

Media Matters for America is apparently resisting an effort by Service Employees International Union Local 500 to unionize its staff. Last week, the union filed a representation petition with the National Labor Relations Board , indicating that the nonprofit media watchdog organization rejected an effort by the union to organize MMFA’s staff through a Card Check election.

Excuse me while I sit here with an amused smirk on my face. Ok, now how can a pro-union, hard left moonbat group like Media Matters be opposed to the union being chosen by the Card Check system rather then a secret ballot? After all, it’s not like using the card check system would give the union a better chance of winning since they will know who was against them, and might use that knowledge to threaten and intimidate those people.

A filing with the NLRB does not necessarily mean that the union and management are in direct confrontation. For example, although Volkswagen tacitly backed the United Auto Workers’ recent effort to organize its Chattanooga, Tenn., plant, the company still insisted on an NLRB-monitored election.

And as we know, the workers in that plant voted not to unionize. They saw what the union had done to Detroit and wanted nothing to do with them. Frankly, I’m confused here. While I can understand the autoworkers turning down a union, what with the average autoworker being dumber then a stump and unable to know what’s best for them, (Per the Progressive Liberal Elite that is), the workers for Media Matters, along with the management, are supposed to be highly educated and very enlightened into the benefits of being assimilated by the Borg becoming dues paying union members.

But the filing does indicate that MMFA is not automatically accepting Local 500’s attempt to represent it’s staff. The nonprofit media watchdog group has hired the law firm Perkins Coie, which specializes in representing management in labor disputes, to represent it before the board.

Oh ho! Bringing in the strike breakers are they? Why those hypocritical racists!

MMFA has regularly presented itself as a supporter of organized labor. It has argued that “economists point to declining union participation as one cause of the growing economic rift in America” and claimed it was a fact that “unions increase productivity [and] do not reduce business competitiveness.”

And they do support organized labor, just as long as they organize everyone else that is.

It seems to be somewhat less enthusiastic regarding unionization when it is applied to itself, though.

UPDATE: MMFA told Gawker.com, “We respect the rights of our employees and will work through this process.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! No they don’t. They are just like any other company. They don’t want some outside group coming in and telling them how to run their business. So how do you guys like it, now that the shoe is up your asses for a change?

suck it up Buttercup
