There is nothing more annoying…

Then a WordPress plugin that WON’T update correctly.Yes this is the Angry Systems Administrator and I’m going to vent a bit. We have a plugin we like called “Tweet This.” The author of this plugin has been updating it quite a bit of late. This, in and of its self, is not a bad thing. However, every single time I’ve tried to update it using WordPress 3’s “Super Duper deluxe, new and improved” update function, the update has failed.

Now the work around is to go to the authors site and download it there, extract the files and then upload it into the plugins directory with an FTP client.

In other words, a massive hands on task rather then the simple “Click the check box and install” that this version of WordPress uses.

This has been happening more and more of late. Recently Disqus released an update and it failed as well, causing me to have to go the manual route. I was under the impression that th new version of WP would relieve me of that onerous maintenance chore.

HAH!

You’ll know I’m trying to update the back end when you come to the blog and see a big sign saying we’re in maintenance mode, updating and to come back later. When the update fails, I have to wait a good 10 minutes for the locks to clear so I can go back in and fix the problems. (Yes I can go in under the hood and clear the lock, but I don’t want to)

Now, not all plugin updates are causing this issue. While this last one broke…again, another that was due for an update went in with no issues.

Go figure.

Well, back to the alt mines.
