“Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”

I was looking at Google+ and saw a pair of interesting questions posted by someone. The questions are in regards to if the United States is more liberal and less free.
These are interesting questions, particularly in light of recent history. Here are the questions:
- Are we more “liberal” now than we were in 1789?
No thinking person could possibly answer this question in any way other than “Yes.”- Are we more or less free than we were in 1789?
Aside from being allowed to stick our genitals anywhere we please, I would have to say “Less.”See the problem? You’re welcome.
The United States is no longer the light of Freedom. This goes further back than Obama or Geo. W. Bush. Ever since Reagan left office, each president has done all he could to undue all the good things he did.
Starting with Geaorge Bush 1, ((George Herbert Walker Bush)) Presidents began undoing all the deregulation work that Reagan had done. With the two terms of Bill Clinton, ((William Jefferson Clinton)) aka “The Silver Zipper,” the re-regulation and the suppression of freedom ran full steam ahead. One example was the suppression of the 2nd Amendment with the institution of the “Assault Weapons” ban.
With George W. Bush, ((George Walker Bush)) and the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack, we got the Department of Homeland Security, the Patriot Act and the Transportation Security Administration.
With the election of Barack Obama, ((Barack Hussein Obama)) we have gotten the suppression of the 4th Amendment, and with the recent passage of the NDAA 2012, there appears to be a section that allows for the detention of American Citizens arrested on U.S. Soil for alleged terrorist activities to be held without trial or recourse to the courts and no representation of a lawyer. ((I wrote about this last week))
Additionally, the Congress is working on the passage of two bills, SOPA and IP-Protect, which, for all intents and purposes, grants the government the right to censor content on the Internet. SOPA is being pushed by Lamar Smith, (R-TX) ostensibly to stop online piracy. The outrage over these two bills has exploded with major industries coming out against it. However, Smith, after accepting his large bribes campaign contributions has been refusing to pull this bill. His lies excuse is that there is very little opposition to this bill. This flies in the face of the facts. Techdirt.com has been doing extensive coverage of these bills and how they will, for all intents and purposes, destroy the internet.
Considering how much the political elites, the Main Stream News Media and the entertainment industry despise how much the internet and how they can’t cover up their corruption, (And in the case of the entertainment industry, their broken business model)
Recently, Obama has been acting more and more like a dictator rather than the head of the administrative branch of the United States Government. President “Constitutional Scholar” has decided to flat out ignore congress and the constitution and basically rule by decree. Of courser he’s been doing this since day one of his administration, but now he’s become far more flagrant in his contempt of the laws and constitution.
Economically, the current administration has been literally destroying industries it doesn’t like and looting the treasury to pay off it’s supporters. The regulatory burden has now reached the point that business will not hire or expand which has given us an 18+ percent unemployment rate. Obama has nationalized companies, (General Motors), and has jammed down the throats of the American people an order to buy Obama approved Health insurance. (Failure to do so will result in fines)
As the details of Obamacare come out, it has not just angered people but enraged them. Despite denials, there will be rationing, a panel is to be created that will determine what care you will be permitted to receive. This panel would have no congressional oversight or judicial review. The end result of Obamacare will be the destruction of the healthcare insurance industry, the collapse of the pharmaceutical industry and the death of people due to denial of medical care they are now able to receive.
The Federal United States Government has become a crushing burden on the people. Instead of protecting the Rights of the People and the States, they have become authoritarian and have usurped powers that they are not entitled to.
We are in the midst of an election for President, one third of U.S. Senate and the entire House of Representatives. The odds are good that the Senate will revert to the Republican party and that Obama will be defeated, however the Republican candidates are some of the weakest in living memory. The so called “Front Runner,” Mitt Romeny, was a pretty poor governor from Massachusetts and is a big supporter of the power of the government over the rights of the people. ((See Romneycare)) He has the backing of the “Establishment” Republicans who think that the status quo is just fine. The rest of the field is fairly weak with pretty wishy washy professional politicians.
Then there is Ron Paul. He claims to be a libertarian and a strict constitutionalist, but in fact he is nothing more than a “Blame America” crank. While he does have some good ideas domestically, his foreign policy thoughts are so bad that they invite nuclear attacks on the United States. He hates Israel and is an absolute isolationist.
That was fine 100 years ago, but these days, in a world with ICBM’s, Nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, etc. and nations that can’t wait to use them, just walking away will guarantee the deaths of millions of Americans and the destruction of cities. Sorry Ronnie, but it’s back to Texas for you!
We also have a few others, all pretending to be for the Constitution and the reduction of the size and scope of the Federal Government.
Newt Gingrich has gone so far as to say that Federal Judges who make flagrantly unconstitutional decisions should be called before Congress and asked to explain themselves. In extreme cases, the judges could be arrested and brought before the congress to give testimony. Of course, Newt has so much political baggage he needs a 500 car freight train to carry it all.
There were a couple of candidates that could have taken on the mantle of Reagan, but they either never gained any traction or were destroyed politically by the leftist media, Obama’s water carriers, or the Establishment Republicans. The odds of Obama gaining reelection are not great, but with the Establishment Party of Stupid GOP continuing with it’s failed idea of “It’s his turn,” (Generally meaning the current favorite of the inner circle), ((Mittens Obomney in this case)) the odds are improving weekly.
If Obama should sleaze his way in to a second term, then we are lost as a nation and the odds of an outright civil war increase exponentially. My personal guess would be that by 2014, there will be outright shooting between federal agents and general citizens. (As opposed to the whackjobs and loons)
If it comes to that, I’ve heard from people who are actually paid to think about things like this, it could cause up to 15+ million dead. Some have said it could be a lot less, with activities more along the lines of John Ross’s novel “Unintended Consequences” in which case people and groups avoid directly confronting Federal Agents unless forced to, and instead concentrate on going after the actual power structure. Others think it will be a repeat of Beirut in the 70’s and 80’s with everyone settling grudges and stacking up bodies like cordwood.
Whichever way it went, it would be bad.
The best way to handle this is not to get to the point where people see no other alternative but to take up arms against their own government. One way this could be handled is to get the states to start refusing the diktats of the federal government and it’s regulatory agencies. If three or four states, when commanded to obey, tell the Federal government “No, we will not!” and are willing to back it up, the Federal government will have no choice but to back down.
One way this can be accomplished is for the states to call for a second Constitutional Convention and pass carefully crafted amendments that will restore the balance and force major cutbacks on the size of the federal government. Such a convention would be risky, and a lot of people don’t want to see it. However, I think we are past the point where Congress will actually do anything but make sure the Incumbent Party continues to be re-elected.
There is a chance, that if the calls for a convention start moving through the state legislatures, and they have a list of amendments that will be presented, Congress might decided to get ahead of things and pass the requested amendments and send them out to the states for ratification. I believe the last time this happened was the repeal of the 18th Amendment. ((Prohibition)) , ((I have no citations for this, only anecdotal stories from years ago Ed.))
Frankly, if Obama does get a second term, and the weasels in Congress don’t get the message that people want a reduction in government, I think we will have no choice but to push for a Convention irregardless of what the “Educated Elites” may think. It may be the only way we can restore our freedoms without the resort to violence.

It is unfortunate, but I think we are too far gone to settle these issues at the ballot box; the elites, elected and appointed, will never voluntarily surrender the power they have accrued. Our president blatantly ignores the constitution, and congress will not call him on it…in fact, Senator Scott Brown thinks it is just dandy.
The issue is states rights and limiting the federal government. I’m sure the progressives, republicrat and demican, thought they had settled that matter with the conclusion of The State’s War. I reckon that the South will rise again…but this time it will not be a matter of geography.
Keep your powder dry.
