Good morning all. I awoke to some sad news. Last night’s episode of Mythbusters, which I haven’t had a chance to watch yet, marks the final episode with Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tony Belleci. No reasons were given for their dismissal, but I would suspect that money was involved.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The three junior Mythbusters have been doing the show for 10 years, (more or less), and I have no doubt that some bean counters at the Discovery Channel decided it was cheaper to let them go. No word on whether or not they are staying with M5 Industries, but if this decision was made over the objections of Jaime Hyneman, who owns M5, then I suspect they will continue working behind the scenes on other projects.\u00a0Even if they move on from M5, all three have a solid reputation, both in the Special Effects field, (Where they started), as well as in front of the camera.<\/p>\n

Releasing these three is not going over well on the Internet and is generally being called a really bad idea. However, I think this means that Discovery has decided it’s time to wind down Mythbusters. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if next season is their last.<\/p>\n

The show has to be very expensive to produce, not so much the salaries as the insurance costs and the materials costs. When you have accidents like an errant cannonball bouncing around a neighborhood, insurers get rather antsy about covering a show like that.\u00a0In any case, it’s been a great ten seasons with them and I hope they have even greater success in their future endeavors.<\/p>\n
