<\/a><\/p>\nThere is also the problem of the Unions pushing for the increases in the minimum wage. There is nothing altruistic about this. Many union contracts have the compensation for the union workers tied to multiples of the minimum wage. If they can force a federal increase in the minimum wage, it\u2019s an automatic pay hike for their membership.<\/p>\n
Well, with the help of the unions, these fast food workers are now out demanding more money claiming they can\u2019t live on what they are making. In a story from Associated Press, these morons are now taking pages from the unions and breaking the law. Here are the details from AP:<\/p>\n Police handcuffed dozens of protesters in cities around the country on Thursday as they blocked traffic in the latest attempt to escalate their efforts to get McDonald’s, Burger King and other fast-food companies to pay their employees at least $15 an hour. The protests, which were planned by labor organizers for about 150 cities nationwide throughout Thursday, are part of a campaign called “Fight for $15.” <\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Typical union thug tactics of course. However, what the \u201cLabor Organizers\u201d might not have bothered to tell these idiots is that the businesses that employ them might decide that their services are no longer required and fire their dumb asses. It\u2019s not like they won\u2019t be able to replace them. Flipping burgers is not what you would call a \u201cHigh skilled\u201d job. In fact, at the pay rate they\u2019re demanding, automating them out of a job starts looking cost effective.<\/p>\n And right on time, a company has built a robot to do just that. In a story by the Business Insider<\/a>:<\/p>\n A company called Momentum Machines<\/a> has built a robot that could radically change the fast-food industry and have some line cooks looking for new jobs. <\/i>The company’s robot can “slice toppings like tomatoes and pickles immediately before it places the slice onto your burger, giving you the freshest burger possible.” The robot is “more consistent, more sanitary, and can produce ~360 hamburgers per hour.” That’s one burger every 10 seconds. <\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n And, unlike some idiot teenager, the robot isn\u2019t going to add something to the burger that isn\u2019t on the recipe<\/a>.<\/p>\n Momentum Machines cofounder Alexandros Vardakostas told Xconomy<\/a> his “device isn\u2019t meant to make employees more efficient. It\u2019s meant to completely obviate them.”Indeed, marketing copy on the company’s site reads that their automaton “does everything employees can do, except better.” <\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n This has always been the problem for \u201cLabor leaders.\u201d They go out their demanding more money then a job is worth, and someone figures out a way to automate the fools right on to the unemployment line. It\u2019s happened in every single industry in the United States. When possible, the low skilled jobs will be automated if possible. With the auto industry, the car makers got tired of paying someone $20\/hr just to turn a wrench.<\/p>\n Manufacturers also moved a lot of capacity to places like Mexico and China. Foxconn is notorious for long benches of workers slaving away assembling Iphones and other products. Now they too have run into the problem of workers wanting more money, (And they weren\u2019t paid very well to begin with), and now they\u2019re looking at automating the assembly lines<\/a>.<\/p>\n The minimum wage job was never meant to be a permanent job. It\u2019s meant to be an entry level job, one where someone with no work history or experience can go to and learn what’s like to have to show up for work and more importantly, how to do a job. You would be surprised how many people don’t actually understand that they need to show up and perform for that paycheck.<\/p>\n When I started out in the Information Technology field, I knew nothing. I was paid the minimum wage at the time and used my time to learn my trade. I don\u2019t make minimum wage now, I make quite a bit more. (Although I will complain that I\u2019m underpaid, especially since I was called at 1am to fix a problem. AW<\/i>)<\/p>\n Anyone who stays at a minimum wage job and doesn\u2019t look to move on to a better paying job is, in my opinion, to stupid to be allowed to run around without adult supervision. I suspect that in the next few weeks, quite a few of these loudmouthed idiots are going to discover the joys of \u201cFunemployment\u201d and just how hard it will be for them to find anything else. The best way to get ahead is to stay in schools, or go back to school and stop thinking the world owes you anything. America is the Land of Opportunity, (Provided that Obama and the PLFD\u2019s get out of the way), and everyone has the same chances.
