Since the Republicans won a massive landslide in this years midterm elections, there were two Senate races that were undetermined. The first one, in Alaska, has ended with the current Senator, Begich, throwing in the towel earlier this week. This leaves the Louisiana senate race still to be decided.

The reason the race is undecided is due to the nature of the Louisiana election rules. Since no one won a clear majority, the two highest vote winners proceed to a runoff election to be held December 6th. The two biggest winners are Bill Cassidy on the Republican side and the three term incumbent, Mary Landrieu, Democrat.

Landrieu has been in big trouble since she helped push Obamacare down our throats and has been trying to talk her way out of it for the last year. Now with the runoff, Landrieu has been desperate to show that she is not a lackey for Obama and is actually relevant for the people of Louisiana.

That hasn’t been working out to well for her since she didn’t win the general election on November 4th. In desperation, Landrieu decided to try and push the Keystone XL pipeline through congress. She managed to get Dingy Harry Reid to let the bill reach the floor, after bottling it and others up for years. The idea was to pass the bill in the House and Senate and send it to Obama, who would promptly veto it as a sop to the envirowhackos. It didn’t quite work out that way. Here are the details from Politico:

Sen. Mary Landrieu’s bid to pass a Keystone XL pipeline bill fell short by the slimmest of margins Tuesday, leaving the $8 billion pipeline still on the table for the ascendant Republican Party to push the project to President Barack Obama’s desk in January. The 59-41 Senate vote was just shy of the 60 votes needed to pass the bill, following a dramatic six days of whipping by the embattled Louisiana Democrat on an issue that almost all of Washington had expected to sit idle until next year.

She must have been using a wet noodle for the purposes of “whipping” the other Democrats into saving her fat ass. Apparently, her skills at convincing the others was about as effective as using a wet noodle.

The defeat deals a blow to Landrieu’s campaign ahead of her Dec. 6 runoff against GOP Rep. Bill Cassidy, whom polls show running comfortably ahead. Winning on Keystone would have helped her demonstrate her clout on the Hill as a champion of her state’s influential oil and gas industry.

Clout? Most of the Democrats do support it, it’s only the hard left moonbats, such as Senator Barbara “Dumber then a bag of hammers” Boxer who want it stopped. The chances of it passing both houses are quite good and it will force Il Douche to actually do his job, either signing it or vetoing it.
