Good day all. The fallout from Sony\u2019s decision to pull \u201cThe Interview\u201d from release continues. During a press conference yesterday, King Putt announced that Sony had made a bad decision.<\/p>\n

According to Breitbart<\/a>:<\/p>\n

President Obama admonished Sony Pictures for cancelling its Christmas Day release of \u201cThe Interview.\u201d He went on to say that if the company had called him, he would have told them to stick by the movie.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This caught Sony off guard.<\/p>\n

Sony responded later that same day saying they did in fact reach out to the White House<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

[Sony Pictures CEO Michael] Lynton reacted to Obama\u2019s comment that he wished Sony had reached out to them. \u201cWe definitely spoke to a senior advisor in the White House to talk about the situation. The fact is, did we talk to the president himself? \u2026 The White House was certainly aware of the situation.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Gee, who do I believe here? The CEO of Sony, Michael \u201cCoward of the Country\u201d Lynton, or Barack Obama, who is a proven liar? Gee that\u2019s a tough one isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

\"Trust<\/a><\/p>\n

All this is going on as Lynton denies that Sony has caved in to the demands of The North Korean Pipsqueak, Kim Jung-duh.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have <\/i>not <\/i><\/em>caved,\u201d Sony CEO Michael Lynton said today, defending his company from President Obama\u2019s comment that the studio had \u201cmade a mistake\u201d in bowing to terrorist demands over the North Korea-skewering <\/i>The Interview<\/i><\/em>. \u201cWe have not caved. We have not given in. We have persevered, and we have not backed down. We have always had every desire to have the American public see this movie.\u201d <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Funny, that isn\u2019t what they said a few days ago.<\/p>\n

The Interview<\/i><\/a><\/em> is over \u2013 really and truly. Despite reports floating around other outlets, Sony<\/a> Pictures will not be putting the now-shuttered pic<\/a> out on VOD, DVD or any other platform, at least not any time soon. \u201cSony Pictures has no further release plans for the film,\u201d a studio spokesperson told me today. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One of the reasons they pulled the movie was threats from North Korea that they would pull a \u201c9\/11\u201d on movie theaters.<\/p>\n

The hacked-apart Sony pulled the James Franco and Seth Rogen film from its December 25 debut date earlier today. That not-unexpected move came after Regal, AMC and other big movie chains announced earlier Wednesday<\/a> that they wouldn\u2019t show it after hackers threatened potential moviegoers<\/a> Tuesday with remarks like \u201cremember the 11th of September 2001.\u201d <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The reality of this is that North Korea couldn\u2019t have pulled off such an attack. It\u2019s not that they don\u2019t have the capability, they do have one of the largest Special Operations forces in the world, it was the logistics of getting the teams and their equipment into the United States. There is no question that they are dumb enough to try something like this, they simply didn\u2019t have the time to put it all together.<\/p>\n

I do see why the major chains chickened out though. They couldn\u2019t take the chance that those loons would try something like shooting up a number of theaters. That doesn\u2019t explain why Sony didn\u2019t just release it as Video on Demand, direct to DVD or release it to independent theaters that weren\u2019t going to back down.<\/p>\n

The fact is, Sony caved in to the North Koreans. What\u2019s worse, Paramount, the makers of Team America: World Police also caved in and informed theaters<\/a> that they would not allow any showings of Team America in case it offended that little jerk with a bad haircut.<\/p>\n

Another major change in the movie industry, thanks to the North Koreans, is a new warning label at the beginning of movies. This will replace the one by the Motion Picture Association of America with a new one.<\/p>\n

Sony and Paramount have made major mistakes the past week. So have the theater chains. They have shown that they can easily be intimidated and will happily surrender to anyone who makes a threat at them. If they had just stood firm and told the North Koreans to go pound sand, there is very little doubt that \u201cThe Interview\u201d would have been a hit. At least until word of mouth about how bad the movie probably is made the rounds.<\/p>\n
