Now I\u2019ve known that the yoyo\u2019s who think the Earth is going to turn int Venus, unless we revert back to living like cavemen, have been acting like a cult for years. As you no doubt know, if you follow my blog, I refer to Al Gore as the Pope of the Church of Global Warming<\/span> Climate Change. Now it seems that members of the scientific community, those who are actually trained in the study of the climate are starting to say the same thing. Here are the details from Breitbart<\/a>:<\/p>\n An MIT professor of meteorology is dismissing global-warming alarmists as a discredited \u201ccult\u201d whose members are becoming more hysterical as emerging evidence continues to contradict their beliefs. During an appearance on this writer\u2019s ((Howard Louis Carr, Jr.))<\/a> radio show ((The Howie Carr Show))<\/a> Monday, MIT Professor emeritus Richard Lindzen ((Professor Richard S. Lindzen))<\/a> discussed the religious nature of the movement.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cAs with any cult, once the mythology of the cult begins falling apart, instead of saying, oh, we were wrong, they get more and more fanatical. I think that\u2019s what\u2019s happening here. Think about it,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019ve led an unpleasant life, you haven\u2019t led a very virtuous life, but now you\u2019re told, you get absolution if you watch your carbon footprint. It\u2019s salvation!\u201d Lindzen, 74, has issued calm dismissals of warmist apocalypse, reducing his critics to sputtering rag<\/em>e.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Professor Lindzen is the worst nightmare of the followers Global Warming. He is an actual scientist who actually knows what he\u2019s talking about. I suspect that besides the normal scientific tools he uses, he also looks out the window of his office at the snow on the ground. According to Pope Al Gore, we should have palm trees in the North East by know, and along the equator, the seas should be boiling.<\/p>\n Last week, government agencies including NASA announced that 2014 was the \u201chottest year\u201d in \u201crecorded history,\u201d as The New York Times put it in an early edition. Last year has since been demoted by the Times to the hottest \u201csince record-keeping began in 1880. But that may not be true. Now the same agencies have acknowledged that there\u2019s only a 38 percent chance that 2014 was the hottest year on record. And even if it was, it was only by two-100ths of a degree.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n And two 100ths<\/sup> of a degree is statistically meaningless. That\u2019s withing the normal range of statistical error. Professor Lindzen thinks so too.<\/p>\n Lindzen scoffs at the public-sector-generated hysteria, which included one warmist blogger breathlessly writing that the heat record had been \u201cshattered.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cSeventy percent of the earth is oceans, we can\u2019t measure those temperatures very well. They can be off a half a degree, a quarter of a degree. Even two-10ths of a degree of change would be tiny but two-100ths is ludicrous. Anyone who starts crowing about those numbers shows that they\u2019re putting spin on nothing.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n But, but, but Professor, you must be wrong. We have it on good authority that the Earth is going to burn unless we do something RIGHT THIS MOMENT!! Not only Pope Al Gore, but many political leaders believe this to be true. You must be in error, and I\u2019m sure many people have called to gently correct you in a polite and positive manner.<\/p>\n Last week, after scoffing at Vermont socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders\u2019 call for a Senate vote on global warming, Lindzen was subjected to another barrage of diatribes. At his listed MIT phone number, Prof. Lindzen received a typical anonymous call:<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI think people like you should actually be in jail,\u201d the male caller told him, \u201cbecause you must know where this is all leading now\u2026 the people you support and take your money from to make these outrageously anti-human comments (also \u2018know\u2019)\u2026 In other words, you\u2019re a sociopath!\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Umm, yeah. I think someone has gone off his meds here, and it isn\u2019t the good professor.<\/p>\n Lindzen chuckled when the voicemail was replayed.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Personally, if I were getting calls like that, I would be concerned that this raving moonbat might be considering strapping on a bomb vest, walking into your office and yelling Lindzen said he was fortunate to have gained tenure just as the \u201cclimate change\u201d movement was beginning, because now non-believers are often ostracized in academia. In his career he has watched the hysteria of the 1970\u2019s over \u201cglobal cooling\u201d morph into \u201cglobal warming.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n I remember that. I think I still have a few novels that talked about civilization ending as the ice sheets came down from the north and everyone died or became Eskimo\u2019s. I recall the Blizzard of \u201878 ((Northeastern United States blizzard of 1978<\/a>)) and having to deal with close to four feet of \u201cGlobal cooling\u201d in the driveway of my parents house. Back then, you actually had some anecdotal evidence that things were cooling down. Now, people look out the windows and see snow on the ground, the thermometer hovering around zero for days at a time and wonder where that nice global warming we were promised actually is?<\/p>\n The world is not going to turn into another Venus. We are in what is called the Interstitial Period between the last ice age and the next one, which is due sometime in the next 10,000 years, give or take a millennium. The world was a lot warmer ((Climate Change, Nothing New? How Has Earth’s Temperature Changed in the Past?)) when the Dinosaurs were around, and the Earth has also frozen solid, from the poles to the Equator ((The Snowball Earth hypothesis<\/a>)). The whole thing, either global cooling or global warming, is just an excuse by the elites to impoverish the world for their own gain.<\/p>\n The warmists\u2019 ultimate solution is to reduce the standard of living for most of mankind. That proposition is being resisted most vigorously by nations with developing economies such as China and India, both of which have refused to sign on to any restrictive, Obama-backed climate treaties. Lindzen understands their reluctance.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cAnything you do to impoverish people, and certainly all the planned policies will impoverish people, is actually costing lives. But the environmental movement has never cared about that.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Of course not, Moonbats, Global warmists, Progressives and Liberals all have one thing in common. A hatred for most of the Human Race. For your average member of the Church of Global Warming, having most of the human race die is just fine with them, so long as the \u201cRight People\u201d live.
