This isn’t to say that Bush was a great president. He wasn’t. He was mediocre at best and if it hadn’t been for 9\/11, there was a good chance he would have been a one term president. Still, since leaving office in 2009, he has remained silent while Obama has accused him and blamed him for everything under the sun. Well, Bush finally spoke out on King Putt’s screw ups. Here are some details from Bloomberg View<\/a>:<\/p>\n In a closed-door meeting<\/a> with Jewish donors on Saturday night, former President George W. Bush delivered his harshest public criticisms to date against his successor on foreign policy, saying that President Barack Obama is being na\u00efve about Iran and the pending nuclear deal and losing the war against the Islamic State.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n It’s about time. One of the problems with Bush was that he would never fight back when he was attacked by the Democrats.<\/p>\n The former president, who rarely ever criticizes Obama in public, at first remarked that the idea of re-entering the political arena was something he didn\u2019t want to do. He then proceeded to explain why Obama, in his view, was placing the U.S. in “retreat” around the world. He also said Obama was misreading Iran\u2019s intentions while relaxing sanctions on Tehran too easily.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n I’m one of those who thinks that Obama is well aware of Iran’s intentions and probably supports them. Why do I say that? No one can be this incompetent.<\/p>\n Bush said that Obama\u2019s plan to lift sanctions on Iran with a promise that they could snap back in place at any time was not plausible. He also said the deal would be bad for American national security in the long term: \u201cYou think the Middle East is chaotic now? Imagine what it looks like for our grandchildren. That\u2019s how Americans should view the deal.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Don’t forget how things were in the Middle East January 20th<\/sup>, 2009. Things were generally quiet, Iraq was stabilizing and was in what the military calls \u201cThe Mop Up Phase.\u201d Afghanistan was still a problem, but the Taliban were generally on the run. Look at how things are now in the region.<\/p>\n Bush then went into a detailed criticism of Obama\u2019s policies in fighting the Islamic State and dealing with the chaos in Iraq. On Obama\u2019s decision to withdraw all U.S. troops in Iraq at the end of 2011, he quoted Senator Lindsey Graham calling it a \u201cstrategic blunder.\u201d Bush signed an agreement with the Iraqi government to withdraw those troops, but the idea had been to negotiate a new status of forces agreement to keep U.S. forces there past 2011. The Obama administration tried and failed to negotiate such an agreement.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Let’s be honest here. Bush never thought that Obama would simply walk away from Iraq and let all the blood and treasure we spent go down the drain. Obama came in with his typical \u201cMy way or the Highway\u201d attitude and when the Iraqi’s balked, Obama said \u201cFine. See if I care what happens to you.\u201d We’ve seen the results of his stupidity with the rise of ISIS.<\/p>\n Obama promised to degrade and destroy Islamic State’s forces but then didn\u2019t develop a strategy to complete the mission, Bush said. He said that if you have a military goal and you mean it, \u201cyou call in your military and say \u2018What\u2019s your plan?\u2019 \u201d He indirectly touted his own decision to surge troops to Iraq in 2007, by saying, \u201cWhen the plan wasn\u2019t working in Iraq, we changed.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Obama’s plan has been gutting the military, not asking them how to destroy the enemy.<\/p>\n \u201cIn order to be an effective president \u2026when you say something you have to mean it,\u201d he said. \u201cYou gotta kill em.\u201d <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n What makes you think Obama was ever going to be an effective president? He was over his head when he was a state senator in Illinois. Bush made a number of significant mistakes while President that we’re dealing with now. It’s still an open question on going into Iraq, and the way the occupation of both Iraq and Afghanistan, at least in the early years, is a case study in what not to do. Bush’s only advantage was that he would learn from his mistakes and try to take corrective action. Obama?
