Good day all. If you have bothered to look at Islam, you will know there are two major sects. The Sunni’s and the Shiites. I’m not going into the differences since I’m not qualified. Suffice to say, they hate each other.<\/p>\n

Last week, Saudi Arabia executed a bunch of people including a Shiite cleric. This has ticked off the Shiite minority in Saudi Arabia as well as the Iranians. Now the threats are flying fast a furiously. Here are the details from Associated Press:<\/p>\n

The execution of a Shiite cleric in Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia laid bare the divisions now gripping the Middle East, as protesters set fire Sunday to the kingdom’s embassy in Tehran and demonstrators took to the streets from Bahrain to Pakistan. The mass execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr along with 46 others – the largest carried out by Saudi Arabia in three and a half decades – illustrates the kingdom’s new aggressiveness under King Salman. <\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During his reign, Saudi Arabia has led a coalition fighting Shiite rebels in Yemen and staunchly opposed regional Shiite power Iran, even as Tehran struck a nuclear deal with world powers.<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That deal Obama and Kerry shoved through is probably why Israel and Saudi Arabia are actually sort of maybe talking to each other.<\/p>\n

Iran’s top leader warned Saudi Arabia on Sunday of “divine revenge” over al-Nimr’s death, while Riyadh accused Tehran of supporting terrorism in a war of words that threatened to escalate even as the U.S. and the European Union sought to calm the region.<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Al-Nimr was a central figure in Arab Spring-inspired protests by Saudi Arabia’s Shiite minority until his arrest in 2012. He was convicted of terrorism charges but denied advocating violence.<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well this is Saudi Arabia. Justice and the Rule of Law are not concepts they really care about, and these were Shiite’s apparently.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Saudi Arabia put al-Nimr and three other Shiite dissidents to death, along with a number of al-Qaida militants. Al-Nimr’s execution drew protests from Shiites around the world, who backed his call for reform and wider political freedom for their sect.<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wider political freedom for themselves. Anyone else? Hang them or cut their heads off. As for the al-Qaida militants? How could that be? King Putt has announced that al-Qaida no longer exists?<\/p>\n

Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard said Saudi Arabia’s “medieval act of savagery” would lead to the “downfall” of the country’s monarchy. <\/b>Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said that by condemning the execution, Iran had “revealed its true face represented in support for terrorism.”<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now here is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.<\/p>\n

In Tehran, a protest outside the Saudi Embassy early Sunday quickly grew violent. Protesters threw stones and gasoline bombs at the embassy, setting part of the building ablaze, according to Gen. Hossein Sajedinia, the country’s top police official, the semi-official Tasnim news agency said.<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, the Iranians are rather good as storming and burning embassies. If they’re expecting any sympathy from me, or most people in the west, well all I can say is don’t hold your breath.<\/p>\n

Western powers sought to calm the tensions. In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau said the U.S. condemned the embassy attack and called on all sides “to avoid any actions that would further heighten tensions in the region.” <\/b><\/p>\n

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini spoke to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif by phone and urged Tehran to “defuse the tensions and protect the Saudi diplomats,” according to a statement. <\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The only reason the Western leaders want to calm things down is oil. However, Middle Eastern oil isn’t as important as it once was. The oil fields in the United States and Canada alone are far larger than what is under the middle east. As far as I’m concerned, we should just stay out of it and let both sides rip themselves up.<\/p>\n
