It’s time for a movie review. Yesterday I saw the new movie Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds as “The Merc with a Mouth.”

The buzz for this movie has been massive, and a sequel was ordered even before this movie opened. If you follow movie openings, this one is in the record books. The movie cost some $58 million to make, and probably another $50 million in advertising. They made all that back and lots more the first weekend.

Now, as usual, there may be spoilers here so leave now or forever hold your piece. Still here? You have been warned!

Deadpool is part of the Marvel universe and generally ties in with the X-men series. I’ve watched only a couple of those movies since they just didn’t interest me. As I understand it, Deadpool is based on a comic book, (I’m sorry, “Graphic novel”), of the same name. This film is an origin film introducing the character.

Deadpool starts out as a mercenary named Wade Williams. Wade meets a girl, they hit it off and are looking at spending the rest of their lives together when Wade discovers he has terminal cancer. He is approached by a mystery man who says they can help him and make him super hero. Wade is more interested in getting rid of the cancer. He decides that he must leave his lady, Vanessa Carlysle, rather than put her through his impending deterioration and death. He meets up with the mystery man and finds out to late that he’s going to be turned int a slave and sold.

Wade is injected with a serum and tortured to activate a mutant gene. When it does finally activate, it cures his cancer but disfigures him badly. He escapes from the lab, and fights the scientist, Francis, who created him. Francis says he can fix Wade, and Wade hesitates, allowing Francis to impale him and leave him in the burning building.

Wade survives and discovers he is immortal and can heal from any injury. He tries to reconnect with his love, Vanessa, but can’t bring himself to approach since his face and body looks like a rotten avocado. Wade decides to become Deadpool and starts searching for Francis. The movie is both flashbacks and current events in the Deadpool world.

Now, this is not your typical Marvel movie. It has a hard “R” rating for language, violence and nudity, of which there is plenty. The movie is also hilarious with Ryan Reynolds nonstop mouth, site gags and probably hundreds of Easter eggs throughout the film. The character, Deadpool, constantly breaks what is known as “The fourth wall” and talks to the audience about what is going on.

Deadpool refers to the movie as a love story, (Referring to himself and Vanessa), and then corrects the audience by telling them it’s a horror film. In reality, Deadpool is a violent comedy. The nonstop gags, in my opinion, rival those of the movie Airplane. The jokes and gags start literally with the opening credits and don’t end until the movie finally ends with a play on the last scene of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

So, my personal rating. I give this a 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it. However, if violence, nudity and nonstop foul language bothers you, don’t go. Also, this movie is NOT for children. There is a reason for the “R” rating. Captain America would definitely not approve of Deadpool’s verbiage.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwIOIEunIJI’]

I’m going to add this to my “Buy on Blu-Ray” list when it comes out.

Thatisall

~The Angry Webmaster~

[yasr_visitor_votes size=”medium”]

Good day all.
