Three friends were going to go fishing in Thailand when one of them passed away. At his request, his friends used his ashes as bait. Here are the details from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2016\/04\/27\/anglers-use-ashes-of-friend-as-bait-to-reel-in-monster-180lbs-ca\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\" target=\"_blank\">The Telegraph<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>T<\/b><b>wo anglers have honoured their late fisherman friend by turning his ashes into a bait that snared <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/picturegalleries\/howaboutthat\/6973294\/Big-fish-a-carp-the-size-of-Kylie-Minogue-and-other-angling-records-and-their-celebrity-equivalents.html\" target=\"_blank\">a giant 180lbs catch<\/a>. Ron Hopper, 64, died from cancer before he could go on a much-anticipated fishing holiday to Thailand with friends Paul Fairbrass and Cliff Dale. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>While Mr Hopper was on his deathbed when the trio agreed Mr Fairbrass and Mr Dale, both aged 65, should take his ashes to the Far East with them and infuse them with a special bait mix to make &#8220;boilies&#8221;. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-Good-Idea-Fairy-3.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15417\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-Good-Idea-Fairy-3-268x300.jpg?resize=268%2C300\" alt=\"The-Good-Idea-Fairy-3\" width=\"268\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-Good-Idea-Fairy-3.jpg?resize=268%2C300&amp;ssl=1 268w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-Good-Idea-Fairy-3.jpg?w=393&amp;ssl=1 393w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 268px) 100vw, 268px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a picture of the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/content\/dam\/news\/2016\/04\/27\/96442097_ash-fishing-xlarge_trans++uHos5ZjvsuFvPFLan6thLl_TMh2KoBra0pt3c2-Lwok.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Bait<\/a>\u201d in the article. Basically, they look like uncooked meatballs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>The two fishermen named the special bait &#8220;Purple Ronnie&#8221; and cast off with it on the end of their lines throughout the nine-day trip.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>And how did \u201cRonnie\u201d perform in his final duty?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>And their dedication to their late friend paid off as a whopping a 12st Siamese carp &#8211; one of the biggest carp fish in the world &#8211; took a liking to his ashes. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>12 Stone is about 168 pounds. That\u2019s one big fish. I guess Siamese carp find dead Englishmen rather tasty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Mr Hopper, Mr Fairbrass and Mr Dale, all from Hull, East Yorks, went fishing in Thailand last year as a retirement present to themselves and enjoyed it so much they booked a return this April. But Mr Hopper, who was a marine engineer, fell ill last December and was diagnosed with aggressive liver cancer by his doctor who gave him just weeks to live. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Paul Fairbrass said: &#8220;It gave him enough time to think about what he wanted to do. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>&#8220;A few days before he died he asked us to take his ashes to Thailand and scatter them around the lake because he had really happy memories of the place. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>&#8220;I told him we would go one better than that and turn him into boilies and catch a big fish with them. He just cracked up and said it was a brilliant idea.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I think, for a final request, that is a first. And landing a record breaking fish speaks of divine intervention. As to the fish?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>It is believed to be the first time the 180lbs Siamese carp has been caught in the lake and it will now be nicknamed &#8220;Ronnie&#8221; in honour of the late angler.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I suspect Ronnie will never be caught again. He\u2019s developed a taste for really overdone long pig and anything less just won\u2019t due.
