Good day all. It\u2019s time for a change of pace, and here we have a nice one. A rancher, on horseback, chased down and roped a bike thief.<\/p>\n

This took place not in Texas, or Wyoming, places where you expect to see cowboys on horseback. It happened in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Oregon. Here are the details from The Guardian<\/a>:<\/p>\n

An attempted bicycle theft in a Walmart<\/a> parking lot was foiled by a cattle rancher on horseback, who chased the thief down and lassoed him until the local police in southern Oregon could arrive.<\/b><\/p>\n

The bicycle was stolen from a bike rack outside a Walmart in Eagle Point, a town about 170 miles south of Eugene, Oregon<\/a>, at around 10amon Friday morning. The woman who owned the bike and several others gave chase on foot but were unable to catch him. <\/b><\/p>\n

Then a rancher named Robert Borba brought his horse out of its trailer, mounted up and chased the thief down, according to Chris Adams, an officer with the Eagle Point police who responded to the 911 call about the theft. <\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we arrived, there was a large crowd standing around a younger gentleman who was on the ground, the rope around his ankle, hanging on to a tree,\u201d Adams said. Victorino Arellano-Sanchez was arrested and charged with theft, the police said. <\/b><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be honest, when I first read that last bit, I thought it said \u201cHanging FROM a tree.\u201d That would have been appropriate and fitting with the historical aspects of dealing with horse<\/i><\/span> bike thieves. Mr. Borba described what happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cI seen this fella trying to get up to speed on a bicycle,\u201d Borba told the Medford Mail-Tribune<\/a>. \u201cI wasn\u2019t going to catch him on foot. I just don\u2019t run very fast.\u201d He added: \u201cI use a rope every day, that\u2019s how I make my living. If it catches cattle pretty good, it catches a bandit pretty good.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr. Borba is new to the area, however I think he has just won the respect of his new neighbors.<\/p>\n

David Stepp said that he had been sitting in his car nearby when he saw the cowboy trotting across the parking lot on his horse after the thief, who was trying to escape on the stolen bicycle. <\/b><\/p>\n

When the thief dismounted and tried to flee on foot, Stepp watched as the cowboy lassoed him by the ankle. The thief then grabbed a tree and held on to it until the police arrived. \u201cBest day of my life,\u201d Stepp said. <\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cI was laughing too hard to intervene,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen it all, but I\u2019ve never seen anything like that in my entire life.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

There is a picture of the criminal with the rope around his ankles and with a death grip on a small tree with Mr. Borba sitting tall in the saddle holding the other end of the rope. I have a sneaking suspicion that the criminal was holding on to that tree do tightly because he expected to be dragged around the parking lot by Mr. Borba. I can\u2019t see Mr. Borba doing that. It would tire out his horse. A tip of the hat to a fine American.<\/p>\n
