As you may recall, there had been massive coverage of both anti-Trump rallies and anti-pretty much everything American riots leading up to the Republican convention in Cleveland this week. Police were understandably very nervous, especially after the two shooting incidents in Texas and Louisiana.<\/p>\n
We also had the New Black Racists<\/i><\/span> Panthers saying they were going to open carry guns in Cleveland and the head of the police union was demanding that the constitution be damned, ban open carry for the duration.<\/p>\n However, a funny thing happened on the way to the massive riots and wild shootouts. Other than a pissing match, (Literally. They were all allegedly throwing urine at each other), between the KKK, the morons from the Westboro Baptist Church and Black Lives, (And no one else), Matters, it was generally peaceful. This has annoyed to usual suspects and rabble rousers to no end. Here are some of the details from U.S. News and World Report:<\/p>\n Activists marched illegally down streets, fought with one another and defied a downtown tennis ball ban Tuesday during the second day of the Republican National Convention. But as the excitement unfolded, some activist leaders wondered where the crowds were. <\/b>Cleveland has seen far smaller protests than those at other recent conventions, despite the nomination of Donald Trump eliciting a rage from progressives that rivals or exceeds their hatred of former President George W. Bush. In a further distinction, it has also seen very few activism-related arrests.<\/b><\/p>\n \u201cLook, I\u2019ll say this: It\u2019s not a good thing people aren\u2019t here in a bigger force when an openly fascistic candidate is being nominated,\u201d says Noche Diaz, who served as spokesman for the day\u2019s highest profile march, which promoted revolutionary communism and the jailing of \u201ckiller cops.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cWhy? I don\u2019t know all the reasons, you\u2019ll have to ask them,\u201d Diaz said after the hour long march by about two dozen protesters, a greater number of reporters and likely even more law enforcement officers, who rode bicycles alongside and behind the group<\/b>.<\/p>\n I can give you the reason. You and your pals are idiots. You scream \u201cFascist\u201d at anyone who disagrees with you, but in reality, it\u2019s you who is a Fascist and racist. All you have become is an entertaining joke, and not a very good one at that.<\/p>\n Nearby, members of the feminist peace group Code Pink handed out tennis balls, which are specifically prohibited within a 1.7 square mile event zone around the main convention venues. Police seized those they could. <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cThey did get taken away, but we gave away hundreds of them first!\u201d says Alli McCracken, a leading member of the organization. \u201cWe expected to get arrested, but we didn\u2019t.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n [youtuber youtube=’http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cdEQmpVIE4A’]<\/p>\n Because you weren\u2019t worth the effort or the paperwork. In other words, you are meaningless.<\/p>\n McCracken says she\u2019s not sure why relatively few people showed up to protest in Cleveland, but she believes many were scared off by Ohio\u2019s open carry laws, which allow people to carry firearms — despite the ban on tennis balls and aluminum cans — near the convention.<\/b><\/p>\n The probable reason for the ban on tennis balls and aluminum cans is fairly simple. They could be used to disguise Improvised Explosive Devices, or IED\u2019s. People openly carrying a gun are also easily observed. If they were to try anything, BLAMMO! A police sniper would have dropped him or her in their tracks.<\/p>\n On the flip side, considering the history of violence that the left wing groups like to indulge in, a heavily armed citizen presence, people who, if attacked, aren\u2019t going to think about their attackers civil rights, does tend to focus your typical Moonbat and Social Justice Warrior on something a bit more important than the protest of the day. Namely, personal survival.<\/p>\n Larry Bresler, the executive director of Organize Ohio, which hosted one of two major progressive marches on Monday, says he\u2019s disappointed by the showing so far, though he doubts it has any broad meaning for U.S. politics. <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cWith all events there have been fewer protesters than were anticipated — even ours was lower than we anticipated,\u201d he says, estimating turnout at 2,500 for the anti-poverty march. \u201cI\u2019m absolutely, positively convinced the reason for that is the fear factor.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n So you finally started paying attention to the people you have been assaulting for, in some cases, years? As I said, when you are flat out told that if you try your usual antics, you\u2019re going to be shot, it does tend to focus your thinking on more important things.<\/p>\n The organizer, one of the city\u2019s most prominent, says \u201cpeople contacted me saying, \u2018boy I would like to attend but I\u2019ve been hearing about all this violence and people bringing guns\u2026 and the huge number of police.’ People just did not feeling comfortable coming.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n So they were all set to come in and riot, loot, plunder and burn, but the thought of getting their pointy progressive heads blown off made them change their minds? Who would have thought?<\/p>\n Coupled with the low turnout, there have been very few arrests, despite ample opportunity for police to fill a convoy of police vans, as they have at previous conventions for offenses such as marching in the road. <\/b><\/p>\n The police and security people have done a fairly good job. That they didn\u2019t wade in and bust heads was due to the lack of need. Were some of the rules broken by the protestors? Obviously, yes. However, good policing is knowing when you don\u2019t move in. Since there really wasn\u2019t that much of a problem, the police generally managed the traffic flow and only arrested the truly stupid.<\/p>\n Hermes, serving as a spokesman for Ohio\u2019s chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, says there have been some arrests this week. On Monday, a local Cleveland activist was arrested, reportedly on an outstanding warrant as she engaged in a political speech. And early Tuesday, he says, the guild received word that three environmentalists were arrested hoisting a banner on a flagpole. The individuals, he says, were charged with trespassing and criminal mischief. <\/b><\/p>\n Damn! I can see why you\u2019re so disappointed. You\u2019re thinking of all the billable hours and potential lawsuits that aren\u2019t going to happen.<\/p>\n Tuesday afternoon presented many opportunities for a crackdown, and police did impose themselves on activists, forcing themselves between groups in the city\u2019s large Public Square, a focal point for demonstrations.<\/b><\/p>\n In this case, they really didn\u2019t want to overload either the Emergency rooms, trauma centers or the morgue. They just put themselves between the two groups and let them rant and rave to their hearts content.<\/p>\n Members of the anarchist group got into a tussle with conspiracy-minded Internet personality Alex Jones at the square, leading to the massive police response that sectioned demonstrators into smaller groups.<\/b><\/p>\n A police scanner transmission reportedly claimed members of the Westboro Baptist Church, the Ku Klux Klan and the Black Lives Matter movement were throwing urine at each other, but if that happened it escaped the notice of just about everyone. There were no visible self-identifying KKK members and opponents of police brutality were based far from fanatical church members, who were surrounded by police.<\/b><\/p>\n The Westboro Baptist Church morons were surrounded for their own protection. Everyone would like to club that bunch of idiots like baby harp seals, including the police. Frankly, if it wasn\u2019t their duty to protect those jugheads, I think the police would have stood back and enjoyed the show.<\/p>\n Hermes says the guild, which has many volunteers actively monitoring protests and a hotline for arrestees, is aware of just one afternoon arrest — of a person who allegedly threw a punch during the fracas involving Jones at the square. <\/b><\/p>\n There is a difference between protest and physical assault. The police weren\u2019t tolerating any violence. That can quickly escalate and with all the people carrying guns?<\/p>\n But he says even if police aren\u2019t arresting people, their presence can be objectionable.<\/b><\/p>\n Oh this should be good.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you are in downtown Cleveland you can literally throw a rock and hit a police [officer]. It\u2019s very intimidating,\u201d he says. \u201cIt certainly is chilling for First Amendment rights.<\/b><\/p>\n Hmm, let me review the 1st<\/sup> Amendment for a moment. Let\u2019s see…. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to peaceably assemble, (Well that could be an issue for the Left), the right to petition the government. Nope. I don\u2019t see anything about the right tho throw rocks at police officers.<\/p>\n The disappointment of the \u201cOrganizers\u201d of the protests is amusing. They were hoping for mass arrests, lots of violence and I have no doubt, not a few of the cannon fodder, I mean rank and file protestors getting shot by citizens. Well, you still have Philadelphia.<\/p>\n The Democrat National Convention is next week and they have the appropriate motto. \u201cLet\u2019s Make History Again!\u201d I\u2019m thinking the political activists should try a historical re-enactment of the 1968 Democrat convention in Chicago.
