Good day all, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. If you have been following tech news instead of the political propaganda being spewed out by the Main Stream Media, you will know that Samsung has been having a major issue with their new Galaxy Note 7 phones.<\/p>\n

The problem? The batteries have been catching fire. This led to recall of about half the Galaxy Note 7\u2019s, most of them in the United States. Samsung started replacing the original models with new ones with \u201cSafe\u201d batteries. Unfortunately, the replacement phones are also starting to \u201cBurn Baby Burn\u201d. Now Samsung has ceased production and it looks like they will recall all the Note 7\u2019s that have been sold. Here are some of the details of this very expensive fiasco from Fox News<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Samsung Electronics said Tuesday that it is discontinuing production of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones permanently, a day after it halted global sales of the star-crossed devices. The South Korean company said in a regulatory filing that it decided to stop manufacturing Note 7s for the sake of consumer safety. <\/b><\/p>\n

As I mentioned above, Samsung began shipping replacement phones that were supposed to be \u201csafer\u201d. It turned out that the new versions also tended to burn.<\/p>\n

It started shipping new Note 7 phones that were supposed to be safer. But reports that even the replacements were catching fire led Samsung to announce it was stopping sales of the devices. <\/b><\/p>\n

I think the final straw for Samsung was a replacement phone that caught fire on a plane waiting to take off. According to ARS Technica<\/a>:<\/p>\n

It looks like Samsung’s exploding battery woes <\/a>may not be behind it just yet. According to a report from The Verge,<\/a> a Southwest Airlines flight was evacuated this morning when a Galaxy Note 7 began smoking in a passenger’s pocket. Worryingly, the phone wasn’t actually one of the recalled defective units\u2014it was a new model that had already been replaced by AT&T just a couple of weeks before. <\/b>The plane was still at the gate when the Note 7 caught fire, and all passengers were successfully evacuated with no reported injuries. <\/b><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve talked about Samsung phones in the Galaxy series before. A few years ago, I bought Galaxy S3 phones for myself and the Angry Webmaster. Last year, when it became time to replace them, I looked at the Galaxy S6\u2019s and decided not to buy them. There were two reasons, one being the fact that Samsung went with a fixed battery. Because of that, I went with the LG G4 series which has a replaceable battery, and a good thing too.<\/p>\n

One of the phones was constantly overheating. I took it back to the place of purchase and they swapped out the battery. Since then, no issues at all. So, instead of having to replace a $400 phone, they replaced a $12 battery. Samsung failed to learn that lesson and now they are going to take a massive hit to their bottom line, as well as to their reputation. Hmm, might be a good time to look at shorting their stock.<\/p>\n
