Good day all. How many of you watched the original version of RoboCop<\/a>? Basically, it was a human policeman who became a cyborg cop. He was created when the pure robot \u201cLaw Enforcement Droid\u201d, had a small malfunction during it’s introduction. That was Science Fiction. Unfortunately, it\u2019s soon to become science fact, at least in Dubai.<\/p>\n

In an article in the Telegraph<\/a>, Dubai is planning on deploying a robot police officer this spring.<\/p>\n

Robot police were once sci-fi fantasy, but soon the real thing will be patrolling the streets of Dubai. <\/b>While the original RoboCop from the 1987 film, a superhuman cyborg law enforcer, could hunt down murderous criminals, the real-life version will be tackling more straightforward misdemeanours<\/b>.<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n

Yeah, I don\u2019t see any way that could possibly go wrong.<\/p>\n

The first robot police officer will be on patrol in the wealthy United Arab Emirates city by May this year, Dubai Police have confirmed. Members of the public will be able to report crimes to the multilingual police robot using a touchscreen on its chest. <\/b><\/p>\n

So, not quite the ED 209 then? Considering what happened during it\u2019s introduction…<\/p>\n

The friendly robot, which can salute and shake hands, can also be used by members of the public to pay traffic fines and submit paperwork. <\/b><\/p>\n

But will it bow towards Mecca 5 times a day, or lash those who don\u2019t?<\/p>\n

Dubai Police, who unveiled the prototype at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition last year, want 25 per cent of its force to be robots by 2030. <\/b><\/p>\n

Cool! That means more opportunities for the organic police and the programmers of the robots for baksheesh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brigadier Khlaid Nasser Al Razouqi: \u201cWe are looking to make everything smart in Dubai Police. <\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cBy 2030, we will have the first smart police station which won\u2019t require human employees.<\/b>\u201d<\/p>\n

Honestly, I think this won\u2019t work out to well. We really should have a human mind in the mix. Someone like former Detroit police officer Alex Murphy.<\/p>\n
