Last Friday, the New York Slimes posted an Op-Ed on significant morale problems at the United States Department of State. It seems that thousands of State Department employees are concerned with Donald Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/snob_che_frame.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-16081\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/snob_che_frame-215x300.jpg?resize=215%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/snob_che_frame.jpg?resize=215%2C300&amp;ssl=1 215w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/snob_che_frame.jpg?w=268&amp;ssl=1 268w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>These professional diplomats are worried that their combined many decades of experience is being ignored by the President and his Secretary of State. They are aghast that they aren\u2019t being asked for their opinions on how to deal with foreign governments. Many positions haven\u2019t been filled and many employees are leaving. Here are the details from the <b>New York Slimes\u2019s Richard Cohen<\/b>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>On the first Friday in May, Foreign Affairs Day, the staff gathers in the flag-bedecked C Street lobby of the State Department beside the memorial plaques for the 248 members of foreign affairs agencies who have lost their lives in the line of duty. A moment of silence is observed. As president of the American Foreign Service Association, Barbara Stephenson helps organize the annual event. This year, she was set to enter a delegates\u2019 lounge to brief Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on its choreography before appearing alongside him. Instead, she told me, she was shoved out of the room. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/violinist.gif\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-966\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/violinist.gif?resize=100%2C120\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Stephenson, a former ambassador to Panama, is not used to being manhandled at the State Department she has served with distinction for more than three decades. She had been inclined to give Tillerson the benefit of the doubt. Transitions between administrations are seldom smooth, and Tillerson is a Washington neophyte, unversed in diplomacy, an oilman trying to build a relationship with an erratic boss, President Trump. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>In other words, he\u2019s someone who is putting into effect the President\u2019s agenda and isn\u2019t paying any attention at all to the Striped Pants Brigade. And the answer to this \u201cproblem\u201d from the snobs?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>An exodus is underway. Those who have departed include Nancy McEldowney, the director of the Foreign Service Institute until she retired last month, who described to me \u201ca toxic, troubled environment and organization\u201d; Dana Shell Smith, the former ambassador to Qatar, who said what was most striking was the \u201ccomplete and utter disdain for our expertise\u201d; and Jake Walles, a former ambassador to Tunisia with some 35 years of experience. \u201cThere\u2019s just a slow unraveling of the institution,\u201d he told me. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/3f\/6d\/b1\/3f6db10530121ebd866886a673a5b03f.jpg?resize=480%2C467&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"480\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Aww, isn\u2019t that just to bad? All these pointy headed leftists who put everyone else ahead of the United States are suddenly at a loss. They now have someone, a whole administration of someones, who are putting America first, Making America Great Again, and telling the globalists to take a long walk off a short pier. Oh the HORRORS!!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/ab\/f2\/59\/abf259afedd5b4d90a855efc0993e776.jpg?resize=186%2C186&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"186\" height=\"186\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>The 8,000 Foreign Service officers are not sure how to defend American values under a president who has entertained the idea of torture, shown contempt for the Constitution, and never met an autocrat who failed to elicit his sympathy. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Excuse me? Soft power was for the birds. This worldview (in essence no more than Trump\u2019s gut) has been expressed in a proposed cut of about 30 percent in the State Department budget as military spending soars; a push to eliminate some 2,300 jobs; the vacancy of many senior posts, including 20 of the 22 assistant secretary positions requiring Senate confirmation; unfilled ambassadorships \u2014 roughly 30 percent of the total \u2014 from Paris to New Delhi; and the brushoff of the department\u2019s input in interagency debate and in pivotal decisions, like withdrawal from the Paris climate accord. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Donald-Trump.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20619\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Donald-Trump-300x214.jpg?resize=300%2C214\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Donald-Trump.jpg?resize=300%2C214&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Donald-Trump.jpg?resize=768%2C548&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Donald-Trump.jpg?resize=1024%2C731&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Donald-Trump.jpg?resize=500%2C357&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Donald-Trump.jpg?w=1180&amp;ssl=1 1180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>The reasons for this dismemberment are unclear. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>No it isn\u2019t. It\u2019s perfectly clear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Is it punishment for Hillary Clinton\u2019s department? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>In part, yes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Or an extreme iteration of the \u201cdeconstruction of the administrative state\u201d sought by Trump\u2019s chief strategist, Steve Bannon? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Not really, The State Department doesn\u2019t have that much regulatory authority and what it does have, it probably shouldn\u2019t have in the first place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Does it reflect the priorities of Trump\u2019s base or White House suspicion of the \u201cdeep state\u201d or the president\u2019s love of generals?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Trump like Generals because they know how to get things done. The State Department\u2019s Professional Diplomats are only good at attending parties, flying around the world attending meetings of no importance in very expensive locations, and agreeing to foreign deals designed to hurt America and Americans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>All these factors appear to play a part. The upshot is a radical militarization of American foreign policy, and that\u2019s dangerous. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Yes, from the perspective of a pantywaist barking moonbat proglodyte who\u2019s sole purpose for years has been the suborning of American sovereignty to the United Nations and the European Union, I can see why they would think it was dangerous.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Tillerson, who declined my request for an interview and whose spokesman never responded to calls and an email, insists he knows what he\u2019s about. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>And why would Secretary of State Tillerson want to talk to an Elitist, proglodyte like you. He knows that anything he said would be twisted completely out of context.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>The secretary has hired two consulting groups, Deloitte and Insigniam, to carry out a complete reorganization of the State Department next year. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Uh oh! He\u2019s bringing in the Bobs from <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2f6c2sW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office Space<\/a>!!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/3b\/36\/08\/3b360874c1c8c3cbe97f2e80756622fc.jpg?resize=430%2C242&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"430\" height=\"242\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>A survey went out to all employees; the process is very deliberate. Those empty name slots down the ghostly seventh-floor corridors may remain empty until mid-2018. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Or forever? That would work for me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<b>The unanswered question with the cuts is: to what end?\u201d McEldowney said. Another senior official, who has since left, pressed Tillerson for direction and was told: \u201cIt\u2019s very simple. End terrorism. End radicalization. Deal with China.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n<p>And Make America Great Again of course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>On May 3, in his one town-hall meeting with the department staff, Tillerson declared, \u201cIf we condition too heavily that others must adopt this value that we\u2019ve come to over a long history of our own, it really creates obstacles to our ability to advance our national security interests, our economic interests.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In other words, it\u2019s time to stop morons like you from trying to be Imperialistic and demanding that everyone do as you say. We aren\u2019t dealing with Americans and we can\u2019t expect them to think like Americans. Of course, the Striped Pants Brigade in the State Department also has a serious problem with thinking like Americans. How dare those people? They actually expect foreign governments that agree to certain levels of funding for things like defense to actually keep their promises?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>It\u2019s hard to overstate how disturbing this is for many in the State Department. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s disturbing to them because they are nothing more then a bunch of over-paid, over-educated blowhards who think that the best way to handle anything is to let the United Nations, The European Union and some tinpot Third world dictator tell us what to do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>As Daniel Fried, another former ambassador who left this year, said upon his departure, \u201cValues have power.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Actually, no, they don\u2019t. Now machine guns on the other hand&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>Asked about the situation at the State Department, Colin Powell, the former secretary of state, told me: \u201cOur interests in the end rest on our values. I am concerned because the country seems to be veering away from values that are so foundational for us.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Like anyone actually cares what Colin Powell thinks? He was the idiot who convinced President George H.W. Bush not to wipe out the Iraqi Army in the first Gulf war, which led to the Second Gulf War.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>David Rank, the top American diplomat in China who quit last month over Trump\u2019s decision to leave the Paris climate agreement, echoed that: \u201cIt\u2019s disturbing to have an administration so nakedly uninterested in our values.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n<p>I think the general attitude of the State Department \u201cDiplomats\u201d can be summed up quite easily.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=x_8YTa_-hZw<\/p>\n<p>For decades, the United States Department of State has been very good at promoting everything BUT the Interests of the United States of America. From my perspective, the last decent State Department employee was <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200512015826\/https:\/\/www.thediplomad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>T<\/b><b>he Diplomad<\/b><\/a>, and he retired due to ill health. He was sick of Felonia von Pantsuit. Well, since this bunch really isn\u2019t needed, I would recommend thanking them for their service and showing them the door. If that happens, you can bet your bottom dollar that the New York Slimes and the Washington ComPost) will scream that this was a plan cooked up by Trump and Putin to hurt those poor hard working layabout professional diplomats.
