Good day all. Recently a hurricane came in and essentially destroyed the panhandle of Florida. When storms like this happen, the scum tends to come out and start looting.<\/p>\n

Normally, when looters show up, people will say that they should be shot. In rare instances, this does actually happen. However, in this instance, we have a stupid criminal who\u2019s choice of loot left a lot to be desired, and with fatal consequences. Here are the details from Fox News<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n

A man trying to steal a law enforcement vehicle was shot and killed last week, hours after Hurricane Michael roared ashore in the Florida Panhandle. <\/b><\/p>\n

The shooting unfolded Thursday night in hard-hit Panama City, a little more than 24 hours after Michael made landfall as a Category 4 storm, WEAR-TV reported<\/a>. Witness Landon Swett told the station he saw the man approach the vehicle from across the street. <\/b><\/p>\n

“He yelled at me a little bit and said, ‘Oh, I’m looting.’ And he opened the door to the police officer’s SUV with the lights going. Got in it, shut the door,” said Swett, who added that he gathered his family and turned to go inside his house. <\/b><\/p>\n

“As I\u2019m crossing the doorway, I look back, I saw the officer at the passenger side, I don\u2019t believe the door was open yet,” Sweet said. “Then I got about three more feet inside, and I heard the shot.” <\/b><\/p>\n

So Mr. Swett didn\u2019t actually see what happened. Oh well, them\u2019s the breaks.<\/p>\n

A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman told the station that the Florida\u00a0State Fire Marshals were the authority involved in the shooting. The spokesman added that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was investigating the incident.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s pretty standard. Now this story is seriously lacking in details. However, I can think of one reason the officer felt he had to fire. Police cars have guns in them. Shotguns, sometimes fully automatic weapons. Under no circumstances do you want those weapons in the hands of a known criminal. We\u2019ve seen what happens to innocent people when stolen police weapons are used by criminals. Innocent people are hurt and killed.<\/p>\n

WEAR reported it had seen evidence of looting at several Panama City buildings, including broken doors and glass. A video widely circulated online showed dozens of people going through a damaged Family Dollar store Thursday. Military personnel in Humvees were guarding the store Friday, according to The New York Times. <\/b><\/p>\n

Well, we now have one less looter to worry about. It\u2019s a pity about the police officer. He\u2019s about to have his life turned upside down, and god help him if the room temperature looter was black. Frankly, I think the officer should be given a pat on the back and returned to duty as soon as he feels able, but then I\u2019m not very merciful when it comes to really stupid criminals.<\/p>\n
