Good day all. While the Angry Systems Administrator thinks I was slaving away at my Real World Job this weekend, (I was), I was also watching House of Cards, the final season.<\/p>\n

The Netflix series, based on a book and television series in England regarding the rise of a power mad British politician, was adapted for the American political system by Netflix. The first two seasons literally mirrored the British series, and you could see how they were struggling to adapt it to the American political system. (The British use a parliamentarian system, and we don\u2019t)<\/p>\n

By the third season, the writers had run out of stories to plagiarize from the British series and started coming up with even more bizarre story lines. Then, last year, Kevin Spacey, who was playing the lead character was fired as part of the #MeToo movement. This forced the production company to scrap the entire 6th<\/sup> season and start all over again. They also made the decision to end the series.<\/p>\n

The problem is, all these sudden changes threw things for a loop and it showed in the production. The first thing they had to do was figure out how to write Keven Spacey\u2019s character out of the series. In the British version, they shot him, and that was the end of the series. In this version, he basically dropped dead. One of the subplots was how did he die and was he murdered?<\/p>\n

Then we have Robin Wright playing President Claire Underwood. She is dealing with people trying to destroy her, her husband\u2019s political shenanigans and the mess he left behind, along with a powerful family who want to run the country through her. Oh, and she\u2019s pregnant too.<\/p>\n

The first half of the season was, more or less, dull. The second half picked up, but it still wasn\u2019t great. We see Claire trick her political enemies into overreaching and then cut them off. We also see a nice body count culminating with her Husband\u2019s fixer, Dough Stamper getting knifed in the guts by Claire in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

That is where they ended the series and it sucked as an ending. Granted, the way things were set up, Claire could easily claim self defense. (The slash mark on her throat inflicted by Stamper, along with his fingerprints on the letter opener in his guts would sell it nicely) However, what happens next? The way they ended this makes it look like they actually thought there would be a 7th<\/sup> season, although the decision to end the series was made before the first script was written. If they wanted to end this properly, they would have added one more episode to tie everything up.<\/p>\n

This is why the Angry Systems Administrator had nothing to worry about. (Note to self, cancel the orders for the plastic sheets and the tanker truck of disinfectant) I started watching the series Friday Night and quickly came to the conclusion that, to put it bluntly, sucked. Oh well, there\u2019s always Sabrina.<\/p>\n
