Here are the details from the Washington Times<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n Personal data including immigration status and employment information were compromised in a breach of HealthCare.gov that affected people who applied for coverage under the Affordable Care Act, former President Barack Obama\u2019s hallmark healthcare reform law, the Department of Health and Human Services said Friday. <\/b><\/p>\n The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)<\/a>, the division of HHS responsible for running HealthCare.gov\u2019s online application portal \u2014 designated the Marketplace \u2014 has begun notifying approximately 75,000 people affected by the previously disclosed data breach, officials announced in an update about the incident. <\/b><\/p>\n This is called locking the barn door after the horse has left, traveled to another state, knocked up a dozen fillies and then died of old age.<\/p>\n Names, birthdates, addresses and partial Social Security numbers were compromised in the breach, as well as a various other personal, employment and immigration information, CMS<\/a> wrote in a letter sent to individuals listed on affected applications. <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cWe are continuing to investigate this breach and putting additional security measures in place to make sure HealthCare.gov and the Marketplace process are safe and all consumer information is protected,\u201d the letter said. \u201cPlease be assured that all information will be protected during Open Enrollment.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n Now, with something this serious, you would expect that people would be notified quickly. In fact, you would think that a very loud and public announcement would have been made regarding this critical data breach.<\/p>\n Quietly published<\/a> on HealthCare.gov, Friday\u2019s update provided details about the data breach three weeks after CMS<\/a> first acknowledged that sensitive but unspecified information involving roughly 75,000 individuals had been exposed as a result of \u201canomalous system activity\u201d detected earlier last month. <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cOn October 16, 2018, we found that a number of agent and broker accounts engaged in excessive searching for consumers, and through those searches, had access to the personal information of people who are listed on Marketplace applications,\u201d victims learned in a letter sent this week. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
