We have a plugin we like called “Tweet This.” The author of this plugin has been updating it quite a bit of late. This, in and of its self, is not a bad thing. However, every single time I’ve tried to update it using WordPress 3’s “Super Duper deluxe, new and improved” update function, the update has failed.<\/p>\n
Now the work around is to go to the authors site and download it there, extract the files and then upload it into the plugins directory with an FTP client.<\/p>\n
In other words, a massive hands on task rather then the simple “Click the check box and install” that this version of WordPress uses.<\/p>\n
This has been happening more and more of late. Recently Disqus released an update and it failed as well,\u00a0causing\u00a0me to have to go the manual route. I was under the impression that th new version of WP would relieve me of that\u00a0onerous\u00a0maintenance chore.<\/p>\n
HAH!<\/p>\n
You’ll know I’m trying to update the back end when you come to the blog and see a big sign saying we’re in maintenance mode, updating and to come back later. When the update fails, I have to wait a good 10 minutes for the locks to clear so I can go back in and fix the problems. (Yes I can go in under the hood and clear the lock, but I don’t want to)<\/p>\n
Now, not all plugin updates are causing this issue. While this last one broke…again, another that was due for an update went in with no issues.<\/p>\n
Go figure.<\/p>\n
Well, back to the alt mines.<\/p>\n
