They\u2019ve been making threats to primary anyone who doesn\u2019t to the Marxist line, or is just to old for them. Now they have a target in their sights, one Edward \u201cIce Cream Man\u201d Markey. Here are the details from Politco<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n Standing before a group of donors at a Cape Cod fundraiser last weekend, Sen. Ed Markey joked about his current political predicament. When you run for public office, he told them, you either run unopposed or you run paranoid. <\/b><\/p>\n For decades, Markey has generally run unopposed in both his primary and the general election. He\u2019s so sure about winning whatever election he\u2019s in, that he doesn\u2019t even live in Massachusetts. His primary residence is deep in the Beltway swamp. (He does maintain a \u201cresidence\u201d in Massachusetts. It used to be his mother\u2019s address)<\/p>\n But Markey has an even bigger reason to be paranoid: growing chatter in state political circles that the last member of the Kennedy political dynasty has an eye on his Senate seat in 2020. <\/b><\/p>\n A mysterious July telephone poll that tested Democratic Rep. Joe Kennedy III against Markey in a head-to-head contest first sparked speculation about the young congressman\u2019s intentions. Then came the formation of a grass-roots group that aims to draft Kennedy into the race.<\/b><\/p>\n When it comes to the Kennedy\u2019s, there is nothing spontaneous or grass roots.<\/p>\n The “Jump in, Joe!” group \u2014 formed by members of Kennedy’s Boston Pride Parade Committee \u2014 launched a website, a Facebook group and a petition earlier this week. <\/b><\/p>\n I would be happy to yell \u201cJump Joe jump!\u201d if he was standing on the edge of the roof of the Hancock Tower. (You may assume that I don\u2019t like the Kennedy family. You assume correctly)<\/p>\n “This is not about the incumbent. It’s not about Sen. Markey. We admire his public service over the past 43 years,\u201d said Jamie Hoag, one of the people who launched the group. \u201cThis is about Joe Kennedy and why we think he would be the best fit for the U.S. Senate.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n And that would be neither of them.<\/p>\n The prospect of the 38-year-old Kennedy challenging the 73-year-old Markey is taking place against the backdrop of generational conflict within the state Democratic Party. One year after Ayanna Pressley took down then-Rep. Michael Capuano in a primary election, almost every member of the state’s congressional delegation is being pressed by a primary challenger in 2020. <\/b><\/p>\n Interesting thing about Pressley. Like Markey and Kennedy, she\u2019s never done an honest days work in the Dreaded Private Sector in her life. In other words, she\u2019s just another Masshole political hack.<\/p>\n But there\u2019s another possibility making the rounds in state political circles: That the draft-Kennedy push could be designed to nudge Markey to retire rather than risk seeing his political career end in a primary defeat. <\/b><\/p>\n Yeah that won\u2019t happen. These long term politicians are like leeches. They\u2019re welded to their seats of power.<\/p>\n Kennedy\u2019s campaign hasn’t directly denied he is angling for Markey\u2019s job. He has said in the past he would consider<\/a> a Senate run if a seat opened up, but right now, his campaign says he\u2019s staying put in the House. <\/b><\/p>\n “Congressman Kennedy is humbled by the support of so many folks in Massachusetts. As he has said, he is running for reelection in the 4th District,” Kennedy spokesperson Emily Kaufman told POLITICO in a statement. <\/b><\/p>\n Kennedy’s campaign declined to comment when asked whether they conducted the July mystery poll, which pitched positive and negative campaign messaging for Kennedy and Markey, including on issues like marijuana, \u201cMedicare for All\u201d and the \u201cGreen New Deal.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n In this case, \u201cNo comment\u201d means \u201cOh Hell Yes!\u201d<\/p>\n Kennedy’s campaign would not say whether the congressman has seen the results of that poll. “We review all kinds of poll numbers, like any campaign. But that\u2019s not something we discuss publicly,” Kaufman said.<\/b><\/p>\n In other words, \u201cOf course we\u2019ve seen the numbers. After all, we paid for the poll out of our secret slush fund.\u201d<\/p>\n Markey himself is a cautionary tale about the perils of waiting around for a Senate seat to open. As an ambitious young congressman in 1984, he initially ran for the Senate seat left vacant by Paul Tsongas. He withdrew from that race, however, and had to wait nearly 30 years before it opened up again when John Kerry resigned to become secretary of State.<\/b><\/p>\n Markey is a worthless hack. He literally has no other skills other than running for and holding office. He also knows that if he loses, he\u2019s done, and that was why he pulled out when Tsongas croaked. He was afraid he would lose and would have to see about getting his old job back as an Ice Cream Truck driver.<\/p>\n While Massachusetts\u2019 other Senate seat would open if Sen. Elizabeth Warren wins the presidency in 2020, a special election to fill her seat would likely feature a crowded, open field of Democratic candidates.<\/b><\/p>\n That must be some mighty fine crack you\u2019re smoking there bub. The only way Fauxahontas becomes president is through cheating, which I won\u2019t put past her and the Democrats. (It\u2019s how John F. Kennedy won in 1960)<\/p>\n While Markey is among the top 10 most popular senators in the country, according to Morning Consult<\/a> approval ratings, there are also signs of vulnerability in a primary. <\/b><\/p>\n I\u2019ve never heard of Morning Consult so I looked them up. Just another polling company that generates useless polls. Frankly, most Americans have never heard of Ed Markey, and would probably find him as contemptible as I do if they did know who he was. Meanwhile, Markey has gone into full campaign mode, so be ready to be annoyed.<\/p>\n \u201cSenator Markey is running for reelection no matter who enters the race. He is crisscrossing the state and will run his campaign hard every day,” Markey spokesperson Giselle Barry said in a statement.<\/b><\/p>\n Markey has rolled out a series of early endorsements over the past several weeks, from NARAL Pro-Choice America, the Coalition for Social Justice, the Blue Mass Group political blog, and former Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh. Markey is also backed by six of the 10 other members of the state’s congressional delegation, according to a <\/b>Boston Globe survey<\/b><\/u><\/a>. Kennedy did not say whether he’ll back Markey next fall.<\/b><\/p>\n And all those endorsements are from the Democrat elite. How about endorsements from people who matter? You know, your constituents? Oh, that\u2019s right. They aren\u2019t important to you. They\u2019re just dirty little people you have to make nice to for a few months every few years.<\/p>\n If Kennedy were to jump into the Senate race, it would change the calculus for Markey and his existing primary challengers. <\/b>Kennedy has high name recognition, goodwill in the party and a formidable fundraising network. Plus, he’d be able to tap into Kennedy nostalgia that still exists in Massachusetts.<\/b><\/p>\n I\u2019m not so sure that nostalgia has any validity anymore. JFK was blown away almost 60 years ago as was his brother Robert. Dead Ted \u201cFatboy\u201d Kennedy has been feeding worms for years and is best remembered for murdering Mary Jo Kopechne after dumping his car with her trapped in the back and leaving her to suffocate. Then there is the information that\u2019s come out regarding his \u201cCollusion\u201d with the Soviets to get Ronald Reagan out of office. (That would be treason)<\/p>\n All the people who would feel sympathy for the Kennedy’s have basically died of old age. Well, this is Massachusetts and this is the Democrat Party. They have far more consistent dead voters then living. I’m pretty sure that the dead voters do sympathize with Joe Cubed.<\/p>\n Still, Joe Cubed would probably pull it off. Massachusetts is basically another single party state where the Constitution has long been dead and buried. Elections there are about as useful as those in North Korea, Cuba or Kalifornistan. (Just to name a few Communist countries).
