What to do with them has been a question that the progressives have trouble answering. Their usual answer is \u201cThrow more money at the problem!\u201d usually by building shelters that few of the homeless will actually use. Now someone in Seattle has come up with a cunning plan. Here are the details from Fox News<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n A Seattle-area council member is pushing a $1 million proposal that would bus homeless people<\/a> out of the state as part of a “family reunification” plan. <\/b><\/p>\n The plan, proposed by King County Councilman Reagan Dunn<\/a>, would be a one- or two-year pilot program aimed at helping people who have someone in another state willing to take them in but can’t afford the cost of getting there.<\/b><\/p>\n So, in other words, the plan is to \u201cBus\u201d all the homeless people to their \u201cFamilies\u201d who all happen to be in San Francisco and Los Angeles?<\/p>\n The city of Seattle and community organizers already offer free bus tickets as part of their broader approach to homelessness but Dunn’s proposal, unveiled Tuesday, focuses on 1,000 homeless people who said they wanted to reconnect with family during a homeless count in King County back in January. <\/b><\/p>\n Those sound like people who are in the \u201cDown on their luck\u201d phase and aren\u2019t addicts or mentally ill. Or that\u2019s what they are claiming.<\/p>\n In that survey, 9 percent of respondents said “family reunification”<\/a> was one piece of support they needed to get off the streets and obtain permanent housing. However, other things like rental assistance, clearing up credit history and obtaining IDs ranked much higher. <\/b><\/p>\n Getting an ID is one of the easiest things to do. If someone is former military, his or her prints will be on file and they can be identified in a matter of days at most. Others may have had licenses that can be located in databases or even passports. These sound like people who have other issues but are not druggies or nuts. That accounts for what? 5% at most?<\/p>\n Dunn unveiled his proposal at a time when city and county officials are considering merging services to better combat rising homelessness in a region that has been dominated by tech companies like Amazon and where income inequality and skyrocketing housing prices are pushing more and more people onto the streets. <\/b><\/p>\n I suspect one of the reasons housing costs are going up is due to the Progressives running the city trying to \u201cHelp\u201d people. The usual end result is utter and complete failure of their plans, but they do feel good for trying! They were even given an award showing they participated.<\/p>\n Dunn, who represents part of the wealthy Seattle suburb of Bellevue and the southeastern corner of Washington’s most populous county, said his pilot program would be better funded and promoted than the city’s piecemeal approach. He said the money would come from reserves.<\/b><\/p>\n Sounds like his constituents are annoyed with the riffraff moving into their neighborhoods and told him to do something about it.<\/p>\n “We have the highest homelessness rate per capita because we’re promoting failed policies,” said Dunn, who opposes combining county homelessness services with Seattle. “We don’t need more government to promote Seattle-centric policies.”<\/b><\/p>\n What is this guy, a Republican? I have yet to meet a progressive who didn\u2019t think the answer to any problem was less government intrusion.<\/p>\n It’s not clear what strings would be attached to his proposed bus ticket program, which would have to be approved by the County Council. <\/b><\/p>\n Oh I can think of a few. First of all, think of all the family members of the city council that need good high paying, low work government jobs. They will also need new office space for the new employees, and oh, they just happen to know someone who has a piece of land that is ready for building. Granted, it\u2019s currently in use with people living in nice homes, but that\u2019s what eminent domain is for.<\/p>\n An investigation by The Guardian in 2017 showed how some cities failed to properly track the people who were sent away or banned them from using public services such as shelters or case managers if they returned after taking a one-way bus or train ticket out of town. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
