Good day all. As we move into the 3rd<\/sup> month of the Great Panicdemic of 2020, I have noticed that a lot of people are getting pretty fed up with the lock downs and government ordered closings. I\u2019ve also noticed how two different stores have been handling things.<\/p>\n

Those two stores are Market Basket<\/a>, a local supermarket chain, and Costco. I just came from both places. I can\u2019t say how well the shelves at Costco are stocked, since I couldn\u2019t get in. It wasn\u2019t that the store was closed, or that it was jammed, instead it was some genius\u2019s great idea to limit the number of people in the store. They had a line wrapping around the building.<\/p>\n

The various bureaucracies and other\u2019s have decided that people should stay 6 feet apart. That was NOT happening with the people who were lined up waiting their turn, soviet style, to get into Costco. That sort of defeats the purpose of \u201cSocialist distancing.\u201d I estimated it was going to take a good 30-45 minutes just to get into Costco, so I left and went to Market Basket instead.<\/p>\n

When I arrived at my favorite Market Basket, it wasn\u2019t to crowded. I didn\u2019t have to line up to get in. I simply went in, grabbed a cart and started shopping. I found most of the shelves were fairly well stocked, and they were adding items as I moved through. I found everything I needed and a few items I didn\u2019t need, but thought I\u2019d try. (New items that looked tasty.<\/p>\n

There were limits on how much of some items you could buy, but since I didn\u2019t need all that much, it wasn\u2019t a problem. I only buy in bulk items that will keep since I hate shopping and try to minimize the times I have to go in. I did pick up a couple of cases of water, but I always have a few cases on hand and go through it fairly rapidly. (So doe SWMBO<\/a>) I did notice that they had paper goods. The shelves were full.<\/p>\n

Other then my tendency to wander around a bit, I was in and out of Market Basket in 20-30 minutes with exactly what I needed. There was one item that SWMBO wanted that was available at Costco, but, obviously, I wasn\u2019t able to get it. Otherwise, I was good to go.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t have a chance to really find out why Costco was doing the Soviet style Line. When I was in there a couple of weeks ago. People were keeping their distance, but they did that anyway. (Shopping carts make great battering rams) I suspect this was just another panicked response from some corporate nitwit who thought that keeping the number of people in the store to a minimum would help control the Kung Flu. Obviously, it didn\u2019t cross the pinheads mind that you will have more people packed closer together waiting to get inside.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, this nonsense will soon pass. Frankly, while contracting the China Virus is not a fun thing, there have been worse illnesses. When I was checking out at Market Basket, I was chatting with the woman running the register. Her then newborn daughter had contracted swine flu when that was running around. Her daughter is 11 now. When that illness was running around, we didn\u2019t shut down the planet. People continued going about their daily lives. We should do this now and end the silliness that is the Great Panicdemic of 2020.<\/p>\n
