Last week President Trump announced a plan to reopen the country for business. I disagree with his idea, (Phased reopening), and favor a simple \u201cEveryone back to work Monday!\u201d approach. Apparently, so does the governor of Oklahoma.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/useagle3.gif\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12315\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/useagle3.gif?resize=150%2C161\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Governor Kevin Stitt has announced that his state is going to just reopen and not bother with the phased reopening that the Rump Administration recommends. This has brought the usual suspects out demanding that he shut everything down again. Governor Stitt isn\u2019t backing down. Here are the details <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/oklahoma-gov-defends-reopening-beyond-trump-recommendations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>from Fox News<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/us-regions\/southwest\/oklahoma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oklahoma<\/a> Gov. Kevin Stitt defended his decision to reopen his state\u2019s economy during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/infectious-disease\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coronavirus<\/a> pandemic, even as his allowances exceed the White House\u2019s recommendations for how soon states should get back up and running. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The Trump administration\u2019s multi-phase plan says that states should not even enter Phase One until they have seen 14 consecutive days of declining cases, which is not the situation in Oklahoma. Stitt is also allowing businesses, including barbershops and beauty salons, to reopen by appointment only, even though Trump recently said he believes they should have to wait longer given the personal nature of their services. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Sorry Mr. President. While I like what you\u2019ve been doing in general, I support the Governor here. People need to get their hair cut, and I\u2019m thinking I may take a drive to Oklahoma and find a barber shop.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/5c\/1b\/4a\/5c1b4a375903ff7704f2ac16d1067d2a.jpg?resize=591%2C358&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"591\" height=\"358\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201c<b>You have to go back and think about why we closed down in the first place,\u201d Stitt told \u201cFox News Sunday,\u201d stating the shutdown was geared toward specific goals. \u201cYou know I\u2019ve issued 15 executive orders since March 15 when I first declared a state of emergency, but it was to build capacity in our hospitals to make sure we didn\u2019t overrun our health care system, it was to build supply for PPE, and it was to flatten the curve. The facts in our state are, March 30 we peaked in hospitalization with 560 across the state. Today we have 300 across the state in our hospitals.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>That is quite low and if the latest reports hold up to scrutiny, it\u2019s very likely that Oklahoma had thousands of people, or more, who were infected with the China Virus and either didn\u2019t show symptoms, or if they did, didn\u2019t realize it was the Wuhan Flu. When we look back on this in the next year, shutting everything down is going to be seen as a major mistake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>Host Chris Wallace referred to Oklahoma State Medical Association president Dr. George Monks, who said that not only has Oklahoma not seen the 14-day downward trajectory in cases, the state has continued to see increases in cases, hospitalizations and deaths over the past week. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201c<b>I don\u2019t know exactly who that is,\u201d Stitt said, reiterating that the state has seen a \u201csteady decline since March 30 in hospitalizations,\u201d which is why he is ready to reopen. He said the state is following a \u201cdata-driven\u201d approach and \u201cwill watch the trends.\u201d If numbers go back up, he said, he reserves the ability to scale back economic activity.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The governor may think he can close things back down, but he may find that people will ignore him. People have had enough of this, and now they are coming to understand that being put under what amounts to house arrest is unconstitutional. (Many lawsuits are being prepared to make sure this never happens again)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>When asked about Trump\u2019s statement Wednesday that businesses such as salons remain shuttered for the time being \u201cbecause safety has to predominate,\u201d Stitt said he agrees that safety should be a focus, but said Oklahoma\u2019s situation is not the same as every other state. <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201c<b>I can\u2019t speak to what\u2019s happening in other states, but in my state we\u2019re seeing the trending going down, our testing going up, our tracing, we put 80 different testing sites up, we\u2019ve tested over 55,000 folks, our positive tests right now are 6.3 percent, and again 300 hospitalized cases across the state with a capacity for 4,600, we think it\u2019s a reasonable time to reopen.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Allow me to give you a quote from Benjamin Franklin regarding liberty and safety:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><b>Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. <\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/56\/f4\/04\/56f404f50ea6f9d5432ab8ed31a0f03b.jpg?resize=321%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"321\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>Stitt acknowledged that one could always say the state should wait until there are 100 hospitalizations or even none, but \u201cI just don\u2019t think that\u2019s practical.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Or realistic either. This virus is going to be around for a while. It\u2019s going to be at least a year before they come up with a vaccine. While there are people, usually rich Progressive Liberals and politicians, who might think that\u2019s a great idea to keep Americans under house arrest until a vaccine is ready, the American People don\u2019t.
