This has presented a bit of a problem for people trying to protect themselves. The blue cities and states are militantly opposed to allowing their serfs and slaves have the means of defending themselves from the scum and villainy they have unleashed on the populace. One of these cities is New York City. They have a very long history of ignoring the Constitutional rights of the people. They have made it almost impossible to get a gun, and now they are working on completely impossible. Here are the details from Fox News<\/b><\/i>:<\/p>\n
The Big Apple\u2019s staggering surge in shootings amid the COVID-19 pandemic has led nearly 9,000 terrified New Yorkers to apply for gun permits \u2014 but the NYPD has signed off on fewer than 1,100, The Post has learned. <\/b><\/p>\n
The 8,088 applications for first-time pistol and rifle permits submitted since March 22 \u2014 when coronavirus-related restrictions went into effect \u2014 represent a threefold-plus increase over the 2,562 submitted between March 22 and Dec. 31, 2019, NYPD statistics obtained by The Post this week show. But only 1,087 applications were approved, far less than the 1,778 granted during the same period last year, according to the official data. <\/b><\/p>\n New York City, and by extension, New York State flat out denies the right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed under the 2nd<\/sup> Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. You must get on your knees and beg the government for permission to exercise your Good or Natural right to defend yourself and to have the tools needed to do so.<\/p>\n This all started when a corrupt member of the New York State Legislature, (Is there any other kind?) got a bill passed that required a license to own a gun. According to the notoriously accurate, (That was sarcasm in case you didn\u2019t recognize it), Wikipedia<\/a>:<\/p>\n The Sullivan Act is a gun control<\/a> law in New York state<\/a> that took effect in 1911. The NY state law required licenses<\/a> for New Yorkers to possess<\/a> firearms small enough to be concealed. Private possession of such firearms without a license was a misdemeanor<\/a>, and carrying them in public was a felony<\/a>. The act was named for its primary legislative sponsor, state senator Timothy Sullivan<\/a>, a notoriously corrupt Tammany Hall<\/a> Democratic politician. <\/b><\/p>\n For handguns<\/a>, the Sullivan Act qualifies as a <\/b>may issue<\/b><\/i><\/a> act, meaning the local police<\/a> have discretion to issue a concealed carry<\/a> license, as opposed to a <\/b>shall issue<\/b><\/i><\/a> act, in which state authorities <\/b>must<\/b><\/i> give a concealed handgun license to any person who satisfies specific criteria, often a background check and a safety class. <\/b>Meanwhile, the approval rate since March 22 is less than 14%, compared to nearly 70% last year. <\/b><\/p>\n In the state that I live in, New Hampshire, we are a must issue state. There used to be a requirement to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but that was repealed a few years ago. Now permits are issued only if you need to cross state lines and visit a state with a reciprocity agreement with New Hampshire. New York is not one of those states.<\/p>\n The dramatic drop comes despite an alarming spike in shootings, which are up almost 98% this year, and murders, which have risen about 39%, according to NYPD data. Recent weeks have also seen a series of disturbing incidents that led one police source to say that “it\u2019s not surprising more people want guns.” <\/b><\/p>\n “People are getting pushed on the subway tracks<\/a>. People are getting robbed<\/a>. It\u2019s because crime is going up,” the cop said. <\/b><\/p>\n “People want to protect themselves.” <\/b><\/p>\n The reason the crime rate has exploded can be laid right at the feet of the Mayor and the City Council. Mayor Dim bulb de Blasio, along with members of the city council, have been pushing to defund and restrict the police. No the NYPD does have it\u2019s issues, however rather then work to correct them, (Which can usually be done with better training and equipment), the powers that be, along with crooked and incompetent district attorneys, go after police instead of actual criminals.<\/p>\n Now the very people who voted these idiots into office are reaping what they have sown, and have discovered what millions of people have known for years. When seconds count, the police are minutes or hours away, if they show up at all. They are also discovering the joys of the gun control loons, such as former mayor Michael \u201cBloomies\u201d Bloomberg, who are working to not only end the 2nd<\/sup> Amendment, but to outright confiscate people\u2019s guns.<\/p>\n Gun store owners said they\u2019ve been hearing complaints from would-be customers whose applications seem to have disappeared into limbo at the NYPD\u2019s License Division, which was rocked by a corruption scandal<\/a> in 2017. <\/b><\/p>\n “They just stopped doing the investigations and the processing,” said a city gun dealer who spoke on condition of anonymity. <\/b><\/p>\n “It\u2019s a slowdown across the board. It\u2019s every person that applies. Every day, I\u2019m speaking to frustrated people.” <\/b><\/p>\n Andy Chernoff, who\u2019s owned Coliseum Gun Traders in Uniondale, Long Island, since 1979, said, “If I had to rely on New York City business, I\u2019d be out of business.” <\/b><\/p>\n “I\u2019ve never seen it this bad,” he said. <\/b><\/p>\n “This isn\u2019t going away anytime soon. I bet these people don\u2019t get their licenses for a year and a half.” <\/b><\/p>\n Of course, the police have a ready excuse, and for once, they have hit the correct target. (NYPD officers are notoriously bad shots in general)<\/p>\n An NYPD source familiar with the situation said the License Division was too short-staffed to deal with the flood of new applications and also blamed an unofficial reluctance to process them.<\/strong><\/p>\n “The politicians are generally against giving licenses, to begin with, so it\u2019s not a priority,” the source said.<\/strong><\/p>\n The political class, made up primarily of Progressive Liberal Democratic CommuNazis, and a few Uniparty Globalist RINO Republicans, flat out do not want \u201cThe People\u201d to be armed. Why? For one, very simple reason. They are terrified that the people might just decide to say \u201cFuck It! Kill them all!\u201d and go after the ruling elite. As for the ruling elite? They have no problems getting guns or carry permits for themselves and their security details.<\/p>\n While researching things for this post I looked up the Sullivan Act. It\u2019s so obviously unconstitutional, that I wondered if it had ever been challenged in court. It has, however the courts have, as usual, waffled and basically backed the governments. The Supreme Court has refused to hear any challenges to the assorted gun control laws on the books since the Heller decision<\/a>.
