Good Day all. WhatsApp is a chat program that allows users to send encrypted texts to each other. It\u2019s also owned by Facebook, and recently people have found out that Facebook has all but gutted the security features in it. (So they can gather info for marketing)<\/p>\n

I used to use WhatsApp, but quit a couple of years ago when I learned about it being sold to Facebook and what Zuckerberg had planned for it. Since the Great Election Theft of 2020, the Socialist Media platforms have been kicking anyone off their platforms who backed the Greatest President of the 21st<\/sup> Century, Donald J. Trump.<\/p>\n

This caused millions of people to flock to alternative apps, such as Parler, Mewe, Telegram and Signal. I\u2019ve been using Signal for a couple of years now and like it. Since people started bailing on the major sites, the smaller sites have been getting hammered with new sign ups. And then we have the Saga of Parler, which was murdered by Amazon, Twitler, Goolag and Crapple. (FYI, I am an amazon associate and provide links to goods, not that anyone actually buys anything)<\/p>\n

Now WhatsApp is seeing the fallout of of the decisions by Zuckerberg. Downloads of the app are plummeting and considering that Signal was degraded yesterday, it looks like people are moving to them. Here are some of the details on why WhatsApp is suddenly Persona non grata from Breitbart<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n

The <\/b>Independent<\/b><\/em> reports<\/a> that the messaging service WhatsApp has seen a major drop in new downloads following a change to the company\u2019s terms of service with many users turning to privacy-focused messaging services such as Signal and Telegram. <\/b><\/p>\n

WhatsApp downloads fell by more than 2 million between January 5 and 12 compared to the previous week, falling to 10.6 million. In comparison, Signal saw 17.8 million downloads while Telegram saw 15.7 million during the same time period, according to data from the app analytics firm Sensor Tower. <\/b><\/p>\n

One of the reasons for the collapse of downloads for WhatsApp was the change to the terms of service. If you didn\u2019t agree to it, you would probably not be able to use it any longer.<\/p>\n

A recent pop-up message sent to WhatsApp\u2019s 2 billion users asked them to accept the Terms of Service for the app\u2019s new privacy policy before the 8th of February or they may lose access to the app. Users outside of the U.K. and Europe are now subject to a data-sharing agreement between WhatsApp and Facebook which will see private user details such as phone number, IP address, and browser information shared with the tech giant. <\/b><\/p>\n

I think I\u2019m safe in saying, \u201cOh HELL NO!!\u201d As I recall, the entire point of WhatsApp was that you didn\u2019t have to worry about this sort of thing.<\/p>\n

The mass user exodus panicked Facebook, prompting the company to take out full-page adverts in India\u2019s newspapers asking users not to leave. In a message appearing on the front page of the Indian Express <\/i>and the Hindu<\/i>, as well as in eight other newspapers, WhatsApp stated: <\/b><\/p>\n

WhatsApp respects and protects your privacy.<\/b><\/p>\n

WhatsApp cannot see your private messages or hear your calls, and neither can Facebook: Every private message, photo, video, voice message, and document you send to your friends, family, and co-workers in one-on-one or group chats is protected by end-to-end encryption. It stays between you.<\/b><\/p>\n

The massive user growth for Telegram led to the app\u2019s founder calling it the \u201clargest digital migration in human history.\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

I looked briefly at Telegram and it\u2019s a lot like Signal. I understand that more people use Telegram then Signal, which will make it difficult for Big Tech to kill it, but I\u2019m sure they will figure out a way to do so. After all, the monopolies are seeing their bottom lines being affected and they simply can\u2019t have that. Meanwhile, sign on to Signal. I use it for both my secure messaging app and for regular text messages. I find it much cleaner then the text app that came with my phone. Sorry, I won\u2019t entertain requests to link up. I use this under my real life identity and keep that separate from my Musings as the Angry Webmaster.<\/p>\n
