Good day all. This is breaking news, and in my opinion, overdue good news. Alec Baldwin has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after gunning down Halyna Hutchins.<\/p>\n

Also indicted was the on set armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. A quick refresher on the details. Baldwin was on a movie set making a western. He was handed a Colt Single Action Army .45 long Colt revolver, and apparently was rehearsing a cross draw and fire in front of the camerawoman, (Hutchins), and the director. Somehow, a live cartridge was in the gun and as Baldwin practiced firing it, it went off.<\/p>\n

Baldwin claimed that he never pulled the trigger, but with that type of firearm, the only way it can go off is if the hammer is cocked and the trigger pulled. He also, and this is far more important, didn\u2019t bother to do even the most basic safety protocols like check that the gun he was handed was actually unloaded. Now he is going to face a jury. Here are some of the details from Fox News<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n

Alec Baldwin<\/a> was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the <\/strong>death of Halyna Hutchins.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Alec Baldwin’s attorney called the charges a “terrible miscarriage of justice” in a statement to Fox News Digital. <\/b><\/p>\n

“This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins\u2019 tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice,” Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel said. “Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun \u2013 or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds. We will\u00a0fight these charges, and we will win.” <\/b><\/p>\n

Well, I can see what Baldwin\u2019s defense is going to be. It\u2019s the basic \u201cIt\u2019s not my fault!\u201d defense. Good luck with that. From what we know, Baldwin refused to take part in any of the safety training and broke all 4 of the cardinal rules of firearms handling.<\/p>\n

  1. Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.<\/li>\n
  2. Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy.<\/li>\n
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.<\/li>\n
  4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Baldwin ignored all of these and a woman died as a result. Now the case will go to court and a jury will decide Baldwin\u2019s fate. It doesn\u2019t help his case that he is an insufferable jerk. While I won\u2019t say this is an open and shut case, I fully expect Baldwin is going to be unavailable for future film work for the next 3-15 years. It serves him right.<\/p>\n
