Greg Abbott<\/a> said Saturday that he intends to seek a pardon for an Army Sergeant recently convicted of murder for shooting a Black Lives Matter protester during an anti-police demonstration in 2020. <\/b><\/p>\n “I am working as swiftly as Texas law allows regarding the pardon of Sgt. Perry,” the Texas Republican tweeted<\/a> Saturday along with a statement on how his office will go about a pardon. Abbott said in his tweet that pardons in Texas must be recommended by the Board of Pardons and Paroles. <\/b><\/p>\n “I have made that request and instructed the board to expedite its review,” Abbott said.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n The governor said he looks forward to signing the pardon as soon as it reaches his desk.\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n The reason for having to go through the parole and pardons board is simple. Texas law doesn\u2019t allow the governor to issue pardons on his own. I suspect it\u2019s a check and balance to prevent a crooked governor from selling pardons. As for this case? We have yet another corrupt Soros DA running amok and abusing his authority.<\/p>\n Army Sergeant<\/a> Daniel Perry was convicted of murder on Friday for shooting and killing a Black Lives Matter protester holding an AK-47 after the gun was raised toward him. The Austin Police Department concluded at the time that Perry acted in self-defense.\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n Which makes sense. The BLM, like their Antifa cohorts, are a violent group. They were making active threats against people, and it looks like Stg. Perry, took them at their word, and was forced to defend himself. The Austin PD agreed with him, so what happened? I also don\u2019t know what effect this will have on Sgt. Perry\u2019s military career. Technically he was convicted, and this may mean his discharge and loss of all benefits.
