Few students have ever read through it and fewer still have ever heard of the Federalist Papers or Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. Most people today really don’t understand the Constitution and what it’s meant to do. This is why the North Carolina Legislature is working on the bill to mandate teaching it and several other important documents, such as Martin Luther King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail. Now all the university professors are up in arms about this. Here are the details from Fox News:

Hundreds of professors at the University of North Carolina signed a public letter Tuesday opposing legislation that would require university students to take courses on America’s government and founding documents.

The 673 UNC Chapel Hill professors revealed the public letter Tuesday, arguing the new courses and another bill in the North Carolina House of Representatives would constitute an infringement on the university’s “academic freedom.”

I would like to know just what these useless mouths actually teach. Tenure was meant to reward really good professors and instructors, but over the last 30+ years, has been used to put people into place who, frankly, would probably end up stood against a wall in many of the countries they think are better then the United States. Tenure has been badly abused and should be abolished.

The other part, reporting on non-instructional research would probably show that most, if not all of the tenured instructors almost never actually teach classes. I think they’re going to be the next group that starts getting a nice anal probe. As for these professors, I have very little doubt that most, if not all of these “Intellectuals” are tenured.
