The idea of Greater Idaho took root a few years ago as the progressive controlled cities in the western part of the state started their usual progressive moves to progressively suppress the rights of anyone who didn\u2019t support the progressive narratives. This pissed off the residents in the eastern part of the state, so they started working on the process of seceding from Oregon and joining Idaho, hence the name, Greater Idaho.<\/p>\n
Needless to say, the Progressive Liberal Democrats think this is really bad idea. For one reason, they don\u2019t like the idea of their slaves thinking they can get away from the Progressive Liberal Democrat Plantation. Now another Democrat has come out in, surprise, surprise, opposition to the idea. Here are the details from Fox News<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., over the weekend spoke out against a campaign to have the rural eastern part of his home state of deep-blue Oregon effectively secede<\/a> and join more conservative Idaho. <\/b><\/p>\n Speaking at a town hall at a local high school, Merkley said the idea of moving the Idaho-Oregon border raises important issues about Oregon’s internal situation that need to be addressed but argued the project has essentially no chance of coming to fruition. <\/b><\/p>\n “There are a whole set of barriers that would make the process very difficult,” Merkley said in response to a question about the so-called Greater Idaho movement, which seeks to incorporate about 13 Oregon counties<\/a>, or 63% of the state’s landmass and 9% of its population, within Idaho’s borders. “I would not want to see the state carved up. I love every part of it.” <\/b><\/p>\n Granted, it is difficult, but it isn\u2019t impossible nor is it unprecedented. It\u2019s happened several times in the past as state boundaries were adjusted. While Senator Merkley may love all parts of Oregon, the feeling from the eastern part of the state doesn\u2019t appear to be \u201cMutual.\u201d<\/p>\n Moving the Idaho-Oregon border would require the approval of both state legislatures as well as the U.S. Congress. Critics have argued such a scenario won’t ever happen and therefore isn’t worth the time and energy. <\/b><\/p>\n I think that the fact that the \u201cCritics\u201d think that this is a waste of time indicates that they\u2019re scared that it could actually happen. Since 11 counties have already voted to start the process, and Idaho is also interested, there is a fair chance of this happening.<\/p>\n However, a resolution is making its way<\/a> through the Idaho Legislature that wouldn’t move the Idaho-Oregon border but rather call for formal talks between the states’ legislatures about relocating the boundary line. Earlier this year, Idaho’s House of Representatives passed the bill. It’s unclear if the bill will eventually pass the Idaho Senate, but the chamber is, like the state’s House, dominated by Republicans who are more supportive of the idea than their Democratic colleagues. <\/b><\/p>\n What\u2019s not to like? I think Idaho would pick up another house seat and this would probably go for the Republicans. Oregon would probably lose a house seat of course, not to mention a good chunk of the landmass of the state. All that would remain would be the the Hard left democrat controlled cities and they are already starting to circle the drain.<\/p>\n Proponents also note that 11 counties in eastern Oregon have voted for ballot measures to explore and consider the move. A measure in Wallowa County currently looks like it will pass in a close vote that, if finalized, would bring the total to 12 counties. <\/b><\/p>\n According to some polling, Idahoans would welcome expanding<\/a> the state boundary. In Oregon, meanwhile, polling has shown a roughly equal number of voters support and oppose the idea, with about one-fifth of the population undecided. <\/b><\/p>\n I question the polls methodology, or at the very least, the information in this Fox article. The question I have about the poll is this. Was it conducted statewide, or only in the eastern parts of the state? If the former, then it\u2019s not really valid since Coastal Oregon wouldn\u2019t be trying to join Idaho, and Idaho doesn\u2019t want them.<\/p>\n Proponents of a “Greater Idaho” argue the movement is about maintaining more traditional values, preserving a certain way of life, and being properly represented by the state’s lawmakers, who they argue impose a far-left agenda opposed by those living in more conservative eastern Oregon. <\/b><\/p>\n And there is it. The Communists, Socialists, Progressives and Liberals, (Not that there is any difference), are flat out ignoring the more conservative parts of the state and running roughshod over their rights and values.<\/p>\n “I have lived along the Oregon border my entire life, so have many east Oregon friends. They have been quite frustrated with the liberal I-5 western Oregon corridor running their state and completely ignoring their values and needs,” Idaho Rep. Judy Boyle, R, told Fox News Digital in March.<\/b><\/p>\n “Advantages for Idaho are gaining citizens with likeminded conservative values, gaining another congressional seat, moving the Oregon ‘legal’ hard drugs several hundred miles away from Idaho’s population center, allowing these new Idaho citizens to remain in their existing homes and generational old ranches which relieves the pressure on the Idaho housing market, and brings more businesses, jobs, and innovators into Idaho.” <\/b><\/p>\n It will also allow the rural Eastern Counties more control over their natural resources. The Urban Progressives have no clue how people live in rural areas and yet they love to tell those people how they should live their lives manage their property. When the people in the Eastern part of the state complain, they\u2019re ignored told to shut up and in some cases, flat out threatened.<\/p>\n Currently, the Republicans are outnumbered in the state legislature and the Democrats are, as usual, are working to lock in single party Democrat rule for eternity. The Democrats basic legislative tactics are \u201cShut up and go away while we do what we want.\u201d<\/p>\n Over the weekend, Merkley acknowledged that the Greater Idaho movement reflects a divide between western and eastern Oregon that needs to be addressed, adding that different communities live across the state and elected leaders should try to understand them. <\/b><\/p>\n Perhaps Merkley should speak to his colleagues in the legislature. They are the ones running roughshod over the more conservative areas.<\/p>\n He also argued that social media and cable television news exacerbate Oregon’s east-west divide, saying politics forced from both the left and right use these outlets to demonize the other. <\/b><\/p>\n Big deal. That\u2019s been going on since the United States was founded. Of course he might be thinking that these discussions and debates need to be controlled and censored. He is a Democrat after all.<\/p>\n Merkley’s comments come as several state Republican senators in Oregon, which is overwhelmingly run by Democrats, are protesting what they characterize as a radically far-left agenda being pushed through the legislature by walking out and preventing the Senate<\/a> from having the two-thirds majority quorum needed before it can pass legislation. The walkout, which began earlier this month, is meant to block certain Democrat-backed legislation. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
