The two main competitors are John Cornyn, (RINO-TX) and John Thune, (RINO-SD). Both are in the running to replace Brain Freeze McConnell and are raising money for the purpose. Here are the details from the Washington Examiner<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)<\/a> has raised $18.3 million this cycle to help boost Republican<\/a> Senate incumbents and hopefuls, raising more than Sen. John Thune (R-SD)<\/a> as both men compete to become the next Senate Republican leader. <\/b><\/p>\n Both senators are working to raise money as they compete for the votes of their conference after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY)<\/a> announced he would step down as leader<\/a> in November, setting off a battle over fundraising and ties with high-dollar donors. <\/b><\/p>\n I have no real problem with these two raising money for Republican candidates. However, I want to know what strings they are attaching. One of the reasons the Republicans didn\u2019t do as well as people expected in 2022 was Mitch McConnell. He, working with Ronna McDaniel, pulled the rug out from a number of viable candidates when they said they wouldn\u2019t support McConnell for party leader. He also threw money at Lisa Murkowski since she is a reliable Deep State Uniparty vote and would support McConnell.<\/p>\n The next Senate leader will be responsible for the party\u2019s political and legislative strategy and will take over McConnell\u2019s super PAC, known as the Senate Leadership Fund. The next leader will also help guide the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the main campaign arm of the Senate GOP, and will recruit key candidates in the coming cycles. <\/b><\/p>\n They had better not screw it up they way McConnell did. If, as I hope, President Trump is reelected this November, the next Republican leader will also be the Senate Majority Leader, unless the GOP screw up again. President Trump will have a very large agenda, mostly cleaning up the disaster known as the Biden Maladministration. If Cornyn or Thune get in the way, which may be likely, then they need to be forced out.<\/p>\n Cornyn, a former Senate GOP campaign chairman and whip, has raised nearly $5.6 million for incumbents, the NRSC, and Senate Republican nominees, according to a source familiar with his fundraising. <\/b><\/p>\n One thing about Cornyn which may prove problematical is that he has screwed over his constituents and they aren\u2019t likely to forget. He may be in his last term and not know it yet. (Telling a concerned constituent who opposes something Cornyn was pushing for Biden, telling the constituent he won\u2019t be intimidated doesn\u2019t help his reelection chances)<\/p>\n The funding is the most the senator, who hails from donor-rich Texas, has raised in a single quarter. Beyond McConnell, Cornyn has been the top Senate GOP fundraiser for 15 years and has spent years building his political operation. He formed a joint fundraising committee last cycle, the Cornyn Victory Committee, to help Republican campaigns directly. <\/b><\/p>\n The question remains, is he helping actual Republicans? The ones who generally support the Greatest President of the 21st<\/sup> Century, Donald Trump and believe in the idea of Making America Great Again, or Ernest Gonzalas, the RINO representative from Texas\u2019s 23rd<\/sup> District? (Granted, Gonzalas is in the House, for now, not the Senate but the concept is the same)<\/p>\n Thune, who comes from the much smaller state of South Dakota, has also ramped up his fundraising and has headlined fundraisers for candidates in the nation\u2019s capital and around the country. The South Dakota senator has attended in-person events in Washington, D.C., and across the country, often juggling multiple each night he\u2019s in town, according to a source with knowledge of his efforts who said Thune has participated in more than 200 events this cycle alone for candidates, incumbents, and the NRSC.\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n I have a question. Has John Thune also shot his dog like the South Dakota Governor<\/a> who won\u2019t be Vice President? (Sorry, I couldn\u2019t resist. I kind of like Governor Noem, but she does have a habit of doing\/saying some really dumb things)<\/p>\n Many senators say they are undecided about which John to support and are considering various factors over the next couple of months. Leadership races are often conducted via secret ballot, making them extremely difficult to predict. It\u2019s also unclear if others will ultimately jump into the race. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), a former NRSC chairman, had expressed interest earlier this year. <\/b><\/p>\n I don\u2019t trust either John. Scott is a maybe since he hasn\u2019t been in the Senate since Hitler was a corporal. While I do like the idea of raising money to crush Democrats, what I, and many others are concerned about is how they are going to help the American people. Are they going to pull the usual RINO Uniparty crap of saying one thing and then doing the exact opposite?<\/p>\n The one good thing to come out of this was Cocaine Mitch \u201cBrain Freeze\u201d McConnell finally stepping down. He should have retired a decade ago. As it stands, the Republicans stand a good chance of picking up a fair number of seats in the Senate in November.
