Recently, there was an incident at a Chicago area school where a couple of Secret Service agents, with credentials, were denied entry by the school administrators. The admins claimed that they were \u201cProtecting\u201d students from Immigration and Customs Enforcement even though they weren\u2019t there for that reason. The agents were there to investigate a threat of some sort.<\/p>\n
However, the Progressives decided to blow this up looking for support. Instead, it blew up in their collectivist faces. If this had been an ICE raid, the ICE agents would have pulled the door right out of the frame or otherwise broken it in. They would have proceeded with their assignments with several agents heading for the school offices with their handcuffs at the ready.<\/p>\n

Now we have a law firm in Maine that is advising school districts to destroy immigration records to \u201cResist ICE.\u201d Here are the details from the Maine Wire<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n A leading progressive law firm in Maine is advising public school officials on how they can effectively resist potential immigration enforcement actions that may involve the families of minors who attend government-run schools, including by destroying evidence of potential immigration crimes. <\/b><\/p>\n Obviously, I am not a lawyer. (Thank GOD!!) However, this sounds really sketchy to me. At first glance, it sounds like this law firm is instructing government officials to actively interfere with ICE in violation of 8 U.S. Code \u00a7 1324<\/a>. Then there is the destruction of government documents.<\/p>\n The advice may place school officials in the legal crosshairs of the Trump Administration under a new policy advisory distributed by the U.S. Department of Justice, which warns state and local officials not to interfere with federal law enforcement activities. <\/b><\/p>\n \u201c[S]chool officials should generate a plan for what to do if immigration officials seek to conduct activities at school, and provide appropriate training to those who may come in contact with officials,\u201d law firm Drummond Woodsum warned in an \u201cImmigration Client Alert\u201d distributed on Jan. 21. <\/b><\/p>\n I would say, in my completely unschooled opinion, what this law firm is doing would be considered a potential criminal act. Along with violating the above statute, you might also add in conspiracy and a few other things as well. If you would like to read the full advisory email, the Maine Wire has posted it in full<\/a>.<\/p>\n The memo advises clients who may have evidence that a student and that student\u2019s parents or guardians are not U.S. citizens or are present in the U.S. without authorization. <\/b><\/p>\n According to Drummond Woodsum, school officials should destroy those records or stop collecting them so as to obstruct or prevent federal immigration officials from enforcing American immigration law. <\/b><\/p>\n Schools may have collected data on students\u2019 U.S. citizenship, nationality, country of birth, U.S. entry date, the date a student first attended school, or the immigration status of the student or their parents or guardians, the memo states. <\/b><\/p>\n \u201c[T]his information should not be stored as part of a students education record and should be destroyed as soon as it is no longer needed,\u201d the memo states. <\/b><\/p>\n Again, I am in no way a lawyer and have only a layman\u2019s understanding of it. However, this doesn\u2019t look like something any reputable law firm would advise a client. This begs the question. Are the people and organizations that this memo aimed at actual clients of this law firm? If not, then this is just some unsolicited advice and not actually actionable unless the schools actually go through with the destruction of these records. I would love to hear from some real legal eagles on the ethics and legality of the recommendations in this memo.<\/p>\n Drummond Woodsum, the Portland-based law firm that instructed schools to destroy evidence of potential illegal immigration, is a well-known left-wing firm in Maine. <\/b><\/p>\n In addition to practicing law, the firm is a major progressive lobby shop that generally advocates for Democratic Party policies and clients aligned with the Democratic Party. <\/b><\/p>\n The firm has been deeply involved in not only immigration-related disputes but also efforts to pressure public schools to conform with left-wing policies rooted in gender ideology. The firm provides a robust government services division \u2014 subsidized by lucrative payments from taxpayer-funded sources \u2014 for contracting with local governments and public education entities. <\/b><\/p>\n If this is accurate and this firm has actually recommended that local and state officials destroy records and interfere with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the performance of their duties, then the various governments should seriously consider reviewing their continued association with Drummond Woodsum. Lawyers and law firms are supposed to advise their clients on how to stay on the right side of the law, not encourage them to break it.<\/p>\n In the case of the latest \u201cImmigration Client Alert,\u201d Drummond Woodsum may be advising its local school clients to take steps that could draw the ire \u2014 and potential legal sanction \u2014 of the federal Department of Justice. <\/b><\/p>\n If anyone were to follow their \u201cAdvice\u201d and ended up arrested or convicted, I could see that law firm being sued into oblivion and the lawyers working for it facing disbarment. Again, Not making claims of being any sort of an expert, just suffering from a case of common sense. I could also see the law firm and it\u2019s staff, (The lawyers), being charged as well. This smacks of putting political beliefs ahead of properly advising their clients.<\/p>\n The Drummond Woodsum memo was distributed under the names of Kelsey M. Cromie and Abigail W. Silsby. Cromie is part of the firm\u2019s School Law Practice Group, while Silsby is part of its School Law and Labor and Employment Groups.<\/b><\/p>\n I looked up these two and found their profiles on LinkedIn. It appears that Ms. Silsby is just starting out in her law career and Ms. Cromie has a more extensive work history and also only recently started working as a lawyer. Ms. Cromie\u2019s previous work history also includes a stint with FEMA.<\/p>\n I also visited the web site of Drummond Woodsum and took a brief look around. Yeah.<\/p>\n Now as I\u2019ve said previously, I am in no way qualified to comment on the legality of what these \u201cLegal Professionals\u201d have advised is legal. I will say that on it\u2019s face, in my unschooled opinion, legal or not, it\u2019s dumb. Currently, ICE isn\u2019t raiding schools looking for illegals. I suspect it\u2019s low on the list of priorities.<\/p>\n Right now they are going after the dangerous illegals, and if they come across others who have only crossed illegally into the United States, picking them up as well. (I believe Tom Homan referred to this as a \u201cCollateral arrest\u201d) We\u2019re also seeing a large number of illegals self deporting and illegal border crossings are way, WAY down. Add to this that of the 300,000 missing children that Biden and Mayorkas \u201cMisplaced,\u201d over 80,000 have been found.<\/p>\n I think that the partners running Drummond Woodsum might want to take a moment and review what is happening, and how the general public is receiving it. ICE raids in New York and Chicago have been met, not by boos and jeers by local residents, but by applause and cheers. It\u2019s beginning to look like the \u201cSilent Majority\u201d isn\u2019t going to remain silent any longer.<\/p>\n If and when ICE does start going into schools, and if the administrators try and block them or destroy records per the advice of the Drummond and Woodman law practice, I could see then entire practice being shut down by the DoJ and everyone criminally charged.
