When the USSR went out of business people started wondering why NATO wasn\u2019t closed down. The reason for it\u2019s existence had collapsed along with the threat of thousands of tanks blasting through the Fulda Gap. Over the years, we have seen just how worthless the Europeans, well the Western Europeans have become. Many of the old Warsaw Pact countries, especially Poland are dead serious about rebuilding their defenses thanks to Putin\u2019s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
However, Western Europe, while talking a good game, has slowly been circling the drain. Instead of being reliable friends, trading partners and allies, they have been moving towards authoritarianism, jailing people for daring to have opinions that the Ruling Elites don\u2019t like. Now more and more people are asking, \u201cIs it time to finally pull out of NATO?\u201d Well Thomas Massie has put forward a bill to do just that. Here are the details from the Washington Examiner<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n Rep. Thomas Massie<\/a> (R-KY) has long been a critic of continued U.S. membership in NATO. He\u2019s categorized it as an archaic institution that serves no current purpose and a waste of taxpayer money. On Tuesday, Massie introduced a bill to end the country\u2019s membership in NATO<\/a>. <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cNATO is a Cold War relic. We should withdraw from NATO and use that money to defend our own country, not socialist countries,\u201d Massie said<\/a> in a press release and in social media posts. \u201cNATO was created to counter the Soviet Union, which collapsed over thirty years ago. Since then, U.S. participation has cost taxpayers trillions of dollars and continues to risk U.S. involvement in foreign wars.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n Now I have almost no respect for Massie. I want him out of the House of Representatives. By and large, I consider him to be more of a threat to the Security of the United States then any sort of benefit. However, even a broken clock is right twice a day. (Unless it\u2019s a digital one that is)<\/p>\n Massie\u2019s <\/b>NATO Act<\/b><\/a><\/em> called for: <\/b><\/p>\n Restricting U.S. taxpayer money from being used on NATO\u2019s security budget <\/b><\/p>\n I don\u2019t think this is going anywhere, but it will be interesting to see how many members of Congress sign on to this. One thing it will do is pull all of the American troops and all of our equipment out of Europe and bring it back to the United States. Certain Neocons will say that it would be cheaper to leave the troops in place, but that is a load of hogwash. There is also the issue of China and how the United States is pivoting to keep an eye on them.<\/p>\n He voted against<\/a> another congressional resolution urging support for NATO in 2022, to \u201cuphold the founding democratic principles of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and establish a Center for Democratic Resilience within the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cNATO is a relic of the Cold War,\u201d Massie said on social media at the time. \u201cWhy should Americans pay for Europe\u2019s defense?\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n And that is something that a lot of Americans are beginning to agree with. The United States has gone into Europe twice in 20 years because of the wars they\u2019ve started became a threat to us. We saw the Soviet Union as a direct threat against the United States and that the best place to fight them was in Europe, not in North America.<\/p>\n Now, Russia has shown that it\u2019s basically a paper tiger. The \u201cShort Victorious War<\/a>\u201d he planned has turned into a meat grinder for Russia. Most of their first line tanks have been destroyed or captured and the Russian military has suffered upwards of a million casualties. The world has seen that Russia\u2019s tactics and doctrine haven\u2019t changed much since the Second World War and their equipment just doesn\u2019t cut the mustard.<\/p>\n The Europeans can build far better weapon systems if they will spend the money. Poland is doing so. The problem is Germany. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, they basically scrapped their military. The formally great Britain isn\u2019t much better, and the French are the French. If they want to secure their borders, then they need to upgrade and replace their systems and start rebuilding their armies. They might also consider not sliding into Fascism and trying to impose their censorship regimes on American companies.<\/p>\n Sadly, this bill will go nowhere fast. There are to many hands taking bribes…I mean campaign contributions from Defense Contractors.
