And I feel fine!<\/p>\n

Angry Webmaster here. It\u2019s been an eventful week. First we had an earthquake. It was a rather large one. Even though I\u2019m in the north east I did feel it. I was actually on the phone with a recruiter when the building shook. I thought it was a gust of wind, however when I looked out the window the trees weren\u2019t moving.<\/p>\n

When I got back to my office we heard there had been a large quake down in Virginia and that the my Real World Job\u2019s corporate HQ had been evacuated and everyone sent home. (The building is brick) Now I can see you left coast types saying. \u201cPULEESE! 5.8? That\u2019s nothing!\u201d<\/p>\n

Out there you would be correct. There are two reasons. First, you\u2019ve rewritten your building codes many times to handle quakes that size and larger. On the east coast? Nope. Also our buildings are a lot older. Lots of brick and masonry buildings. Take a look at the pictures of the cracks in the Washington Monument.<\/p>\n

The second problem is geology.<\/p>\n

The rock on the left coast is all broken up with lots of sand. This tends to absorb the shock waves. On the east coast we have fairly solid, very old rock formations. This allows the shock waves to travel over a far longer distance and maintain it\u2019s strength. I\u2019m not going to look all this up, you can do it, or watch the Discovery Channel. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Now, we have a Hurricane coming up the coast.<\/p>\n

Hurricane Irene is the first major storm of the year and the first one heading for the East coast in a long time. It may or may not hit Cape Hatteras, or it may bypass it and head into New England. We\u2019ll find out in the next few days.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s happening?<\/p>\n

PANIC!!<\/p>\n

I had to go shopping for groceries last night after work. The joke is that people will by large supplies of bottled water, toilet paper, bread and milk. I bought:<\/p>\n

  1. Three cases of bottled water. ((I \tusually buy 5 but only needed 3))<\/li>\n
  2. One 4 pack of orange juice. \t((Pretty standard for me and Mrs. Webmaster))<\/li>\n
  3. One 3 pack of soy milk. ((Mrs. \tWebmaster can\u2019t dairy handle dairy products))<\/li>\n
  4. One watermelon. ((Mrs. Webmaster \tloves Watermelon))<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Nope, no toilet paper, or bread. Just what I had planned on buying in my normal shopping trip. I did see some people buying like THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END!! Sorry, not going to happen. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

    Now here\u2019s a little weather map that\u2019s been floating around the internet for the last few days. It includes a simple prayer.<\/p>\n
