These are for things like city and town councils, mayors, etc. They don’t have a direct effect on the overall British government the way a midterm election does in the United States. Saying that, the recent election was not good for the Labour Party and Keir Starmer. Actually, it was a disaster from what I’ve been reading. Now there is a move to boot Starmer. Here are the details from Fox News:

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer could face a leadership challenge as soon as next week after his Labour Party suffered major losses in Thursday’s local elections.

As I understand it, the Labour Party lost something like 1400 positions. Generally, these would have gone to the Conservative Party, but they are in even worse shape than the Labour Party and might just go out of business after almost 200 years. On the other hand, the Reform Party founded by Nigel Farage apparently picked up a number of seats. This has pissed off some of the Labour members of Parliament. They are worried about their own jobs.

Labour MP Catherine West told the BBC that if a Cabinet minister does not challenge Starmer by Monday, she will trigger a leadership contest herself. If this is the case, the political slaughter of the Labour Party could be massive.

“But my preferred option is for the Cabinet to do a reshuffle within itself, where there’s plenty of talent and for Keir to be given a different role, which he might enjoy, perhaps an international role, and then for others to come to the fore, who can communicate the message, who are very able, so we can have minimum fuss,” she continued.

I gather my belief that if the Party forces a No Confidence vote and Starmer loses, a general election will be held is correct. Considering what I’ve been seeing in regards to the polls over there, the Labour Party would be crushed. This explains Catherine West’s preference that Starmer step down or is pushed out by the Cabinet. There would be no need for a No Confidence vote or an early general election with all the inherent political risks to the frauds and phonies currently in parliament.

West, a former junior Foreign Office minister, would need support from 20% of Labour MPs — or 81 members — to trigger a contest.
