One of the most abused laws on the books is the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Foreign_Intelligence_Surveillance_Act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act or FISA<\/a>. Theoretically, it allows the government to spy in foreign nationals and property owned by foreign nationals inside the United States. It\u2019s not supposed to be used against American citizens.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/5b\/ff\/99\/5bff997110e9330b2c9d29dd45e8d5f1.gif?resize=498%2C278&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"498\" height=\"278\" \/><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>One part of FISA that has to be renewed annually <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FISA_of_1978_Amendments_Act_of_2008#Section_702:_Non_U.S._persons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is section 702<\/a>. On June 13<sup>th<\/sup>, at 11:59 pm EST, that authorization ended and hasn\u2019t been renewed. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/13\/us-news\/us-intelligence-communitys-foreign-spying-powers-expire-after-lawmakers-reject-fisa-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Here are the details from the New York Post<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The US intelligence community\u2019s warrantless surveillance powers expired Friday night, one day after House lawmakers \u2013 including 19 Republicans \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/11\/us-news\/house-votes-down-fisa-extension-as-lawmaker-revolt-grows-over-bill-pulte-pick-as-acting-dni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected a short-term extension<\/a> of the program.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/shocked-face.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20636\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/shocked-face.png?resize=300%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/shocked-face.png?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/shocked-face.png?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The three-week extension of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/05\/us-news\/democrats-blow-up-fisa-renewal-to-protest-trump-pick-of-bill-pulte-as-acting-dni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">government\u2019s spying authority<\/a>, known as Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), failed a House vote Thursday amid concerns over President Trump\u2019s appointment of federal housing regulator Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence and the potential abuse of the program \u2014 setting the stage for its expiration at 11:59 p.m. Friday.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>It\u2019s unclear when congressional lawmakers will look to revive the program. House members began a scheduled 10-day recess at the end of Thursday.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The problem with renewing this section is that it has been abused almost from it\u2019s inception. This abuse really took off under the Garland DoJ and the Wray FBI. This blew up in their faces when a court order released records of thousands of violations. <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/national-security\/4012650-fbi-misused-surveillance-tool-fisa-section-702\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>According to The Hill<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The FBI repeatedly misused a surveillance tool in searching for foreign intelligence to use in cases pertaining to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and 2020 racial justice protests, according to an April 2022 court order publicly released Friday.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The order, which was released by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligence.gov\/assets\/documents\/702%20Documents\/declassified\/21\/2021_FISC_Certification_Opinion.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court<\/a>, is significantly redacted but reveals thousands of violations of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows the federal government to collect communications between certain targeted foreign individuals outside the U.S.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>One of the targets was President Trump. The Biden Maladministration was looking to utterly destroy President Trump and the Make America Great Again coalition by, literally, any means necessary. I did a little research on who appointed the judges to the bench. (The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court appoints judges to the FISA court) Only one was appointed by President Trump and he was appointed to the court in 2024. The rest? A nice mix of COBB judges. (Clinton Obama Bush and Bush) Two of the names I recognize as judges who have been quite obvious in their contempt for President Trump.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/736x\/bf\/8f\/c4\/bf8fc42efb5aae0bf155e0e61c3d61b0.jpg?resize=350%2C394&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"350\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/13\/us-news\/us-intelligence-communitys-foreign-spying-powers-expire-after-lawmakers-reject-fisa-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Returning to the New York Post story<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The law enables the US government to surveil non-Americans abroad without first going before a judge to get a warrant. However, that surveillance often sweeps up communications of American citizens in the process. The controversial spy power was reformed in 2024, but some critics want additional changes.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The problem has been the applications to the FISA judges. You have a number of cases where the applicants flat out lied to the court. When this was discovered, very little was done to deal with the issue. What should have happened is that the ones doing the lying should have been indicted and tried. Then you have the problem with the judges. A lot of them just rubber stamp the applications instead of doing their due diligence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/stamp-rubber-approved.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12353\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/stamp-rubber-approved.jpg?resize=250%2C295&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/stamp-rubber-approved.jpg?w=250&amp;ssl=1 250w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/angry.net\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/stamp-rubber-approved.jpg?resize=127%2C150&amp;ssl=1 127w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The lapse is not expected to immediately impact the ability of the US to gather foreign intelligence.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The government can still obtain warrants to conduct electronic surveillance and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fisa-702-spy-powers-surveillance-congress-terrorism-063e0f03ca366eaa339f9c51755d943a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">certified in March<\/a> that Section 702 powers could remain in effect for another year.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201c<b>Everything that\u2019s already been authorized and certified is already in motion, and current FISA authorizations will continue unaffected, at least through March 17, 2027,\u201d House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/house-vote-extension-fisa-702-spy-power-bill-pulte-uproar-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said earlier this week<\/a>, arguing that \u201cgovernment surveillance activities will continue unchanged\u201d after Friday.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Raskin huh? I wouldn\u2019t trust that slimy lying weasel as far as I can throw a Ford class carrier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.), however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/house-vote-extension-fisa-702-spy-power-bill-pulte-uproar-trump\/\">said<\/a> the lapse would put the government in \u201cuncharted territory.\u201d\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201c<b>Once this authorization expires, the clock starts ticking,\u201d Crawford said Wednesday. \u201cThe implications get worse every single day. While the 702 database would remain available to search, the data in that database will become increasingly out of date.\u201d\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>Crawford noted that phone and internet service providers may refuse to comply with government requests for data after Section 702 expires.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>How about they just go and get a regular warrant? You know, fill out the appropriate affidavits, go to a federal judge, (Not one of those pretend Magistrate judges), and get approval? You know, like they normally would.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/736x\/12\/9c\/45\/129c45849175cb9b561e1e42e211e381.jpg?resize=488%2C275&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"488\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now there is some benefit to the FISA Section 702 laws. They have broken up terrorist attacks. The problem is the abuse of the FISA warrants that occurred during the declaration of Lawfare against President Trump and other Americans that the Democrats considered to be their enemies.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats blocking this aren\u2019t interested in making any corrections, or they would have proposed them. For them it\u2019s all about getting points in their \u201cWar on America, Donald Trump and anyone who wants to Make America Great Again.&#8221; For them, they flat out don\u2019t care who gets killed by their actions. (As long as it isn\u2019t them of course)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>The program has been credited with providing the US with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligence.gov\/ic-on-the-record-database\/results\/fact-sheet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intelligence used to kill al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri<\/a> in 2022 and thwart a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/spy-program-credited-stopping-taylor-swift-terror-plot-barrels-toward-expiration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">terrorist attack on a Taylor Swift concert<\/a> in Austria in 2024.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>There was a planned terrorist attack on a Taylor Swift concert? Now I\u2019m not one of her fans, but I know damn well that her fans, the so called \u201cSwifties,\u201d are fanatics. If something were to happen to her and some of her fans at a concert, and it led back to either the Democrats or Republicans playing games, That political Party would be destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>While there are Republicans who think that FISA and Section 702 are a problem, they don\u2019t actually want anyone hurt. They understand that just blocking it, (For most of them. There are morons in the GOP as well), is not a way to protect the Constitution. They want some changes that more closely follow the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Democrats. If they can\u2019t use it to go after their enemies, then burn it to the ground and then blame everyone else.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/736x\/6b\/9c\/90\/6b9c905ae1a5fe3befdccf5ece5a4fa2.jpg?resize=400%2C396&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"400\" height=\"396\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m in the \u201cIt needs careful review and reform\u201d camp. I don\u2019t have a problem with spying on the communications of foreign nationals outside of the United States. We do need a way to better deal with what to do when the calls and communications of Americans are picked up. Frankly, I\u2019m not qualified on how to best figure this out.
