Good evening everyone. Time for something totally off the wall. I was surfing around a bit and found a story on a group that wants to have Pole Dancing become an Olympic event. Pole Dancing? Hmmmm.<\/p>\n

This isn’t just some post in a small off the wall blog, (Like Anger Central), but is actually being written about in respectable newspapers. ((Respectable newspapers? HAH!<\/strong>)) In this case it’s the Washington Examiner<\/a>:<\/p>\n

It will be great for TV ratings, that\u2019s for sure. A group of pole dancing advocates wants the activity, more commonly associated with dim nightclubs, recognized as an Olympic sport. The Pole Fitness Association and other pole dancing advocacy groups are circulating petitions to have vertical dance, which they compare to gymnastics, added to the London 2012 lineup.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Actually, I think it’s a bit late to have it added to the 2012 Olympics…Damn IT!! I understand they have a few “other” hurdles to overcome as well.<\/p>\n

one big obstacle is standing in the way of the pole fitness bid: its notorious past. Pole dancing advocates want to be taken seriously, but to achieve legitimacy and make an R-rated activity PG for national broadcast, they\u2019re trying to tone down the sexy. A Facebook inquiry on the Pole Fitness Association of America<\/a>\u2019s page recently put out a call for \u201cgood positive role models for the pole dance community\u201d for a PSA that they play to broadcast nationally.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, a good role model. Sure. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

There is a petition to get Pole Dancing into the Olympics. It has about 6,400 signatures<\/a>, but has further to go. A LOT further. I’ve included a video so you may have an idea of what we would see if this does become an Olympic event.<\/p>\n
