I was just about to start writing about something else when I saw this headline on the Drudge Report<\/a>. A member of Iran\u2019s Parliament announced that Iran\u2019s military will practice closing the Strait\u2019s of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

The legislator, Parviz Sarvari, said:<\/p>\n

“Soon we will hold a military maneuver on how to close the Strait of Hormuz. If the world wants to make the region insecure, we will make the world insecure.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well now, I\u2019m sure THAT will help the price of oil. The Straits of Hormuz handles about 1\/3rd of all the oil shipped around the world. If Iran were to actually close the straits, it would have a severe impact on the world economy.<\/p>\n

Most people probably don\u2019t recall the last time Iran was making a hash of things in the Straits. This was back during the Iran\/Iraq war in the 80\u2019s. Both sides were firing Silworm<\/a> antiship missiles and the Iranians were running around in Boghammers<\/a> firing RPG\u2019s into the sides of tankers. The United States was in a virtual shooting war with Iran, (Which resulted in most of the Iranian navy getting sunk). With the end result that one of our cruisers ((USS Vincennes<\/a>)) accidently shot down<\/a> an airliner thinking it was an F14 trying to ram the ship. Several US ships were damaged, either by missile attack or by mines. However, the straits were never closed by either side.<\/p>\n

However, the current regime in Iran has never let stupid stand in their way, and planning on closing the Straits of Hormuz ranks right down their with some of their more stupid ideas. The Iranian military has no comment when contacted. This isn\u2019t a surprise. I\u2019m sure the Iranian military is pulling their collective hair out over this bigmouth in Parliament.<\/p>\n

If Iran were to make good on their threats to close the straits, it would fall to the United States yet again to reopen them. With the current moron in office, ((That would be Obama<\/strong><\/em>)), I think the Iranians would have a good shot at keeping the straits closed. This threat, along with Iran\u2019s attempt to develop nuclear weapons almost guarantees that \u201cBad Things\u201d are going to happen in the Middle East in the next few years. If \u201cBad Things\u201d do happen, Iran will bear the brunt of it.<\/p>\n

The problem is, the current regime doesn\u2019t care. In their minds, if Iran is destroyed with most of the people dead, it will mean the return of the Twelfth Imam. Somehow I don\u2019t think the Twelfth Imam will like arriving in a radioactive hellhole which is what Iran will become if they block the straits and start trying to fling nukes around.<\/p>\n

These are dangerous times, with lunatics running Iran and clowns playing golf in Washington. We need to get rid of the loons in Iran and remove the clowns from Washington next November.<\/p>\n
