Good day to you nice and stingy people, Angry Webmaster here. I’ve just returned from some quality time with a lawyer, signing 18 billion forms to refinance the Anger Central Primary Dwelling.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I started this odyssey last November. My original mortgage broker called me and said I could get at least a point off my original mortgage. That amounts to about $300\/month, give or take.<\/p>\n

“Sign me up!” I replied, and so began all the fun and games of refinancing my home loan. The first thing I had to do was get the Anger Central Primary Dwelling appraised. I knew that the value had dropped, but didn’t know by how much. I was concerned that the mortgage had flipped ((The house was worth less than I owed on the original mortgage<\/strong>)) and I was now underwater.<\/p>\n

I was presently surprised to find that not only had we not flipped, we actually had a fair amount of equity in the house. I spoke with SWIMBO ((She Who MUST BE Obeyed<\/a>)), aka Mrs. Webmaster, and her answer was “If it save money, GOOD! You do!”<\/p>\n

Little did Mrs. Webmaster know what I had planned for her. When I bought the house, Mrs. Webmaster was not yet Mrs. Webmaster. We were waiting for her visa to be approved so she could immigrate to the United States. Since she wasn’t here, I couldn’t get her on the deed. We took care of this a few days before she left to see her mother in China.<\/p>\n

She wasn’t to happy with the 50 documents she had to sign, some of which dealt with her giving me her Power of Attorney ((What is a Power of Attorney?<\/a>)) so I could sign everything for her. A few days later she was winging her way to China.<\/p>\n

Lucky her.<\/p>\n

Now I had a few problems getting everything all sorted out with the ban holding the loan. One major issue was the PMI ((Lenders mortgage insurance<\/a>)), which I no longer had to pay. Unfortunately, I no longer had the letter informing me of this happy event, so I had to spend some serious quality time on the phone with the bank’s customer support. It took a good 2 weeks, but I received the letter and passed it on to my mortgage broker.<\/p>\n

There was just one small problem.<\/p>\n

According to her, I was still paying it. We went back and forth with this and we finally determined there was a second PMI on the loan, this one paid by the bank. It should have been cancelled when my PMI was ended, but apparently it wasn’t. I got to spend more time on the phone with customer service and also the company that held the insurance policy. The only problem was the bank and the insurance company weren’t talking to each other.<\/p>\n

As this was all happening, the original closing date came and went and I had to fork over another mortgage payment at my original rate. After much back and forth with the first level drones of the bank’s customer service people, I finally had had enough and used a phrase I have never used before.<\/p>\n

“I want to speak with your supervisor please.”<\/p>\n

I was finally transferred to someone who could actually get things done. Another 8 days passed and I finally got the confirmation letter indicating that EVERYTHING had been cancelled. This was late January. We were able to finally settle on a closing date and today was that day.<\/p>\n

I can’t wait to tell Mrs. Webmaster all the wonderful paperwork she didn’t have to sign. I not only had to sign and initial my name, I had to sign and initial Mrs. Webmaster’s name along with a notice that I was signing and initialing for Mrs. Webmaster.<\/p>\n

There were easily 150 forms I had to sign multiple times. At one point I paused and stretched my arm and cracked the knuckles on my writing hand. The lawyer commented that it sounded like Curly ((Curly Howard<\/a>)) from the Three Stooges<\/a> after he had “X’ed” his name on 500 forms in one of the movies they did. I just looked at the lawyer and went back to signing.<\/p>\n

I was there for about an hour, and now I just have to wait for my payment book. The first payment is due April 1, (Hmm, that date has significance I think) and it is significantly lower than my last one. Since I have always paid more than I needed to, I appreciate this aid to our household budget.<\/p>\n

I have no plans to do this again any time soon. :p<\/p>\n
