Good day all, Angry Systems Webmaster here with another movie review. Last night I saw Act of Valor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This is a movie about United States Navy Seals ((Sea Air and Land<\/a>)) and started some active duty Seals. The movie has been getting a bad rap from the usual suspects, hard left professional film reviewer, but has been getting generally good reviews from the people who matter, The Public. I\u2019m certainly not going to dump on it either.<\/p>\n

As is my usual habit, I went to Chunky\u2019s Cinema Pub<\/a> and had dinner. I\u2019ve written about Chunky\u2019s many times so I won\u2019t bore you with the details. As usual, the food was good and this time they didn\u2019t screw up my order. (A tip was left)<\/p>\n

I could see some problems with the movie, but that can be chalked up to using military personnel as actors. They are much better at blowing away the bad guys then delivering lines. However, this is more than made up for how the Seals acted in the action sequences. Basically, they weren\u2019t. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

The plot is pretty basic of course. A CIA ((Central Intelligence Agency<\/a>)) agent ((Roselyn Sanchez<\/a>)) is captured by Central American bad guys and the Seals are sent in to rescue her. They don\u2019t go into how they knew who had her or how they knew where she was. Instead, they concentrated on getting the Seals into position and in the actual rescue. Lots of shooting, explosions and evil bad guys getting their heads blown off ensued.<\/p>\n

Once they are clear, the Seals find out that the mission is going to get a lot more complicated. It turns out a cell phone the Seals recovered had some important information on it. A Chechen Islamic Terrorist is planning to smuggle some suicide bombers into the U.S. And cause massive havoc.<\/p>\n

There is the usual drama and waiting, along with assorted side missions. This is demonstrated with the wife ((Ailsa Marshall<\/a>)) of one of the Seals. Just before he goes on deployment, she tells him she is pregnant. They show how long things are talking by how far along she is in her pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Seals are sent after the smuggler who is helping the terrorists get into the U.S. They board his ship and start questioning him. The terrorists are being smuggled in through Mexico with the help of the drug cartels.<\/p>\n

An aside here. There has been talk of this happening, but I think this would be the stupidest thing the cartels could do. Smuggling drugs is one thing. Aiding RIF terrorists into the United States with the resultant chaos and bloodshed is an almost guarantee of the gloves coming off. We wouldn\u2019t be sending in DEA and FBI to arrest the cartels, we would send in troops with a total lack of subtlety. Basically, the gloves would come off and we would hit them with everything in the arsenals including artillery and B-52 strikes if needed. As to the governments of the nations the Cartels are in, they would be told in no uncertain terms to stay the Hell out of the way.<\/p>\n

Anyway, back to the movie.<\/p>\n

The team is then sent to Mexicali to stop the terrorists. They meat up with some Mexican military\/police. (I suspect their Navy people. They have a reputation for going after the Cartels) There is a big battle scene with some surprises. (I won\u2019t spoil them for you) The final scenes in the movie are sad, poignant and uplifting.<\/p>\n

Act of Valor is a no apologies, pro-American, pro-Military movie. This is probably why it\u2019s already made it\u2019s money back, and also why the Hollywood morons generally hate it. You saw the same thing last year with Battle: Los Angeles<\/a>. The critics and lefties hated it, but everyone else loved it.<\/p>\n

So, how do I rate the movie? I give it about 6 1\/2-7 stars out of 10 stars. The film was done quite inexpensively, (Which is why it\u2019s made it\u2019s money back already), and the Military personnel acting in the film showed that they should stick to blowing up the bad guys. Still, I do recommend seeing the movie.<\/p>\n
