For the last few days the world has \t\twatched a massive terrorist attack going on in India. Once again Islamic \t\textremists attacked innocent and unarmed people. From the initial \t\treports, the goal of the murdering thugs was to kill 5000 people. As of \t\tthis writing, it looks like they murdered 300.<\/p>\n

Now the question we need to ask, Could it \t\thappen here?<\/p>\n

The answer is that it already has.<\/p>\n

\u201cExcuse me? When did this happen?\u201d you \t\task?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On March 16th<\/sup>, 1916 Pancho \t\tVilla along with some 450 men crossed the border from Mexico and \t\tattacked the town of Columbus, New Mexico.[1]<\/sup><\/em><\/strong> The raid killed 9 civilians, men and women, along with 8 US Army \t\tsoldiers. The casualty rate probably would have been higher if it hadn’t \t\tbeen for the presence of Camp Furlong and the troops. This was the last \t\ttime the United States suffered a ground style attack similar to what \t\thappened in Mumbai, India.<\/p>\n

What would happen today if such an attack \t\ttook place? For arguments sake, we will put the timing of the attack \t\tsometime in 2009 after Barack Hussein Obama takes office. Then there is \t\tthe location of such an attack.<\/p>\n

If the terrorists were to try hitting \t\tsomeplace in the South or Western United States, they would probably be \t\tshot to pieces by armed citizens within minutes. However, if they hit \t\tcities in the Northeast or West coast, they will do a lot of damage \t\tbefore the local swat teams can deal with them.<\/p>\n

Why is this?<\/p>\n

To answer this, let’s take New York City. \t\tNYC has very strict controls on the private ownership and carrying of \t\tguns. Basically, unless you are one of the \u201cspecial people\u201d you can’t \t\thave one in the city. The Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, is militantly \t\topposed to the private ownership of guns and has tried to shut down gun \t\tstores in other parts of the country[2]<\/em><\/strong><\/sup>. \t\tOf course this didn’t start with mayor Bloomberg. The Sullivan act has \t\tbeen on the books for almost 100 years.[3]<\/strong><\/em> <\/sup><\/p>\n

There are about 35000 police in the NYC \t\tarea. Not all are on duty at the same time and they are spread \t\tthroughout the city on assorted duties. They are generally armed with a \t\tpistol and may have a shotgun, automatic rifle or submachine gun in \t\ttheir patrol cars. The officers also are issued body armor however not \t\tall wear it while on duty. The armor won’t stop a rifle bullet in any \t\tcase.<\/p>\n

Now the terrorists will be as well armed, \t\ttrained and prepared as the ones that went wild in Mumbai. Rather then \t\ttry to come ashore in a beach landing, they will probably sneak across \t\tthe border. Their weapons and explosives will also be smuggled in the \t\tsame way drugs are brought in. [4]<\/strong><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

Unlike the Mumbai terrorists, these \t\tterrorists will have time to scope out their target areas personally. \t\tOnce they are ready they will move into position and attack. One of \t\ttheir first targets will be any uniformed police officer they can see. \t\tThe police will be their biggest threat. Then they will begin shooting \t\tanyone they can find.<\/p>\n

The terrorists will have pretty much of a \t\tfree hand for at least 15 minutes before police can arrive in any \t\tnumbers. The carnage they will cause will probably be even greater then \t\twhat happened in Mumbai. NYC is a very crowded city.<\/p>\n

Now unlike the initial police response in \t\tMumbai, Police in NYC will open fire as soon as they see a clear target. \t\tThere is also the chance, however slim, that there will be armed \t\tcitizens in the assaulted areas. Eventually the SWAT teams will come on \t\tsite and deal with the terrorists, or at least try to.<\/p>\n

One of the problems will be our own legal \t\tsystem. For years \u201cCivil Rights\u201d lawyers have been working to gut the \t\tsecurity systems designed to protect people. Police SWAT teams might \t\thesitate to kill terrorists as they appear. Unlike the military, police \t\tjust are not psychologically prepared to just mow down the enemy. \t\tThey’ll get over it very quickly, but in the back of each responding \t\tofficer’s mind will be shooting review boards and the ACLU.<\/p>\n

Now the attack is over and we are left \t\tdealing with the aftermath. Several things will probably happen. First, \t\tgun and ammunition sales will skyrocket. People will start carrying guns \t\tno matter what the local laws may say. This will drive certain political \t\ttypes absolutely bonkers. How DARE the peons think they have any rights \t\tto arm themselves?<\/p>\n

Those politicians will soon find \t\tthemselves out of office, possibly even forced to resign by their \t\tconstituents. You will see a call to roll back gun control laws, and \t\tthat will be fought tooth and nail by the pro-gun control lobbies nation \t\twide. The gun control lobbies will probably be ignored and there is a \t\tbetter then even chance that police will not attempt to enforce gun \t\tcontrol ordinances already on the books. Not wanting to face down \t\thundreds of armed and angry citizens does tend to make LEO’s rethink a \t\tfew things.<\/p>\n

Consider this:<\/p>\n

The attack in Mumbai could have been a dry \t\trun of sorts. A test to see what might happen if a small group of well \t\tarmed and trained terrorists got loose in a city. We could see such an \t\tattack happen here. Such an attack probably would not be limited to one \t\tcity, but perhaps several cities. Are we prepared for a full scale \t\tassault like what happened in India?<\/p>\n

No, we aren’t. Oh the military has plans \t\ton dealing with this and Law Enforcement agencies also are trying to \t\tcome up with contingency plans. The problem is the American people. We \t\tare not ready. If\/when this type of attack happens, it will shock people \t\tbeyond what they felt on 9\/11. The death toll could be far worse then \t\twhen the Towers collapsed.<\/p>\n

Think about it. A group of terrorists get \t\tinto a large office building, seal the exits and then go floor by floor \t\tslaughtering everyone they can find. This is just what they did at the \t\tTaj Mahal hotel. Hundreds of people could be murdered and the police \t\tsimply couldn’t do anything to stop it short of a full dress military \t\tattack. If the terrorists have an RPG, that will slow the police \t\tresponse even further. (RPG’s will destroy any armored vehicles used to \t\tgive the police cover in a counter attack)<\/p>\n

Are you frightened yet? Good. You should \t\tbe.<\/p>\n

The new administration coming in, spent \t\tthe last year talking about running away from Iraq, (Now no longer an \t\tissue since the present administration decided to go and win there), \t\tgutting the military, (25% cut in the middle of a war?), and closing the \t\tprison at Guantanamo Bay. The people about to take office refuse to \t\tconsider that there are tens of millions of hostile Muslim who want to \t\tdestroy the United States.<\/p>\n

If the new administration guts our \t\tsecurity systems the way they have said they would, and we get hit, it \t\twill spell the end of the Democratic party. Oh they will try to rule for \t\tthe next 2 years, but the midterm elections will tear them apart. Do you \t\tthink the new president will actually do anything like hunt down and \t\tdestroy the people who send terrorist teams into the United States? If \t\tyou do, I have a bridge and some swamp land you might be interested in.<\/p>\n

Just some food for thought. Do NOT expect \t\tthe governments, city, state or federal, to be there to protect you. \t\tThey can’t and the courts have ruled that the police are not required to \t\tprotect individuals. Police officer do try, but they can’t be \t\teverywhere, nor would we want them to be.<\/p>\n

Basically we are on our own and our own \t\tgovernment is determined to thwart us.<\/p>\n
