Good day all. I think we\u2019ve had enough politics for a while, which is why the Angry Systems Administrator posted a review<\/a> on Papa John\u2019s pizza<\/a> yesterday. Today, I think I\u2019m going to tell you about how NOT to leave work early.<\/p>\n

Now some of you may have heard about a bad fire aboard a nuclear submarine at the Portsmouth Navy Yard in Maine a couple of months ago. The fire, which occurred May 23rd<\/sup> aboard the USS Miami ((USS Miami – SSN-755<\/a>)), was so severe that there was talk about scrapping the boat. ((Why are submarines called boats?)) The damage was in the forward part of the boat and did not affect the reactor. (Which was offline in any case). The estimated damage is over $400 million dollars.<\/p>\n

At first, once the fires were extinguished, the thought was that the fire had started accidentally. Well, that turns out not to be the case. Here\u2019s a few details from Fox News<\/a>:<\/p>\n

A civilian employee set a fire that caused $400 million in damage to a nuclear-powered submarine because he had anxiety and wanted to get out of work early, Navy investigators said in a complaint filed Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Casey James Fury, 24, of Portsmouth, N.H., faces up to life in prison if convicted of two counts of arson in the fire aboard the USS Miami attack submarine while it was in dry dock May 23 and a second blaze outside the sub on June 16.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, that\u2019s certainly one way to get out of work. However, I don\u2019t think 30 years in a federal prison is exactly what this bonehead had in mind.<\/p>\n

If convicted of either charge, Fury could face life imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000 and be ordered to pay restitution, officials said. His federal public defender, David Beneman, declined to comment. A court appearance was set for Monday afternoon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I doubt he will get life, but he is looking at a good 10 years anyway. This could be considered sabotage and in some circumstances, Fury could have been executed. As to the restitution? If they sold every usuable organ in his worthless body, it wouldn\u2019t come close to paying for this damage. So what was loserboy\u2019s excuse?<\/p>\n

Fury was taking medications for anxiety and depression and told investigators he set the fires so he could get out of work, according a seven-page affidavit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ahh yes the old \u201cIt\u2019s not my fault! It was the drugs that made me do it! I was depressed and anxious! It\u2019s not my fault!\u201d What a load of horse manure. I can\u2019t see doing something this stupid even using those drugs AND sniffing paint fumes. This loser must have stuck his head into the reactor and inhaled radiation for a good hour to kill off enough brain cells to think torching a nuclear submarine to get out of work was a good idea. So how did they get this \u201cGenius?\u201d<\/p>\n

Fury, who was working on the sub as a painter and sandblaster, initially denied starting the fires but eventually acknowledged his involvement, the affidavit states.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He admitted setting the May 23 fire, which caused an estimated $400 million in damage, while taking a lie-detector test and being told by the examiner he wasn’t being truthful.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now lie detectors, or polygraphs ((What is a polygraph<\/a>)), aren\u2019t the most reliable means of determine if a statement is truthful or not. They can be beaten fairly easily if you know how. However, if you are a drugged out radiation sniffing idiot, a polygraph test can work very well for an investigator. So how did this idiot start the fire? Did he use some cunning device? Not really, no.<\/p>\n

Fury told Timothy Bailey, an agent for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, that “his anxiety started getting really bad,” so he grabbed his cigarettes and a lighter, walked up to a bunk room and set fire to some rags on the top bunk.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Didn\u2019t anyone tell him that the smoking lamp was out? I guess not. This was the first, and by far the most damaging of the two fires Pyroboy set. He set a second one in June in the drydock the Miami was in. He really wanted to get some time off I guess.<\/p>\n

Fury said he set the second fire after getting anxious over a text-message exchange with an ex-girlfriend about a man she had started seeing, according to the affidavit. He wanted to leave work early, so he took some alcohol wipes and set them on fire outside the submarine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If he was feeling sick, why didn\u2019t he just tell his foreman and go? Well, as you might expect, he\u2019s blaming the meds.<\/p>\n

Fury said he initially lied about setting the fires “because he was scared and because everything was blurry to him and his memory was impacted due to his anxiety and the medication he was taking at the time,” according to the affidavit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Looks like he\u2019s working on a diminished capacity defense ((Diminished capacity in United States law<\/a>)). Somehow I don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to work and I suspect he won\u2019t be getting a room at a \u201cClub Fed. ((Best Places To Go To Prison)), ((Club Fed<\/a>))\u201d This pinhead has cost us at best $400 million to repair the damages to the Miami, and worst case, they will have to scrap the boat and replace it. That will cost several billion dollars.<\/p>\n

I really hope that when he gets to his new home in prison, they put him with someone who thinks he has \u201cA Purty Mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n
