Good day all. It seems that a reality television show on A&E has just hit the big time and not in a way A&E intended. The program is called Duck Dynasty and it tends to aim towards conservatives, Christians and gun owners.
Now I will state for the record that I have never watched an episode of Duck Dynasty. I just don’t care for reality TV all that much with the exception of Sons of Guns on Discovery. I am aware of the program and I understand it is a smash hit for A&E. So why did A&E decide it was a good idea to take one of the main characters, a gentleman named Phil Robertson, and for all intents and purposes, fire him from the show?
They did this because he spoke his mind on homosexuality. (He doesn’t approve of it at all) This caused the bed wetters at A&E to get their panties in a knot and announce the immediate permanent suspension from the show of Mr. Robertson.
This bald faced attempt at suppression of Mr. Robertson’s First Amendment right of Freedom of Speech has not gone over to well with the audience, and that includes millions of people such as myself, who have never watched it. There are calls to boycott the program and petitions are now being circulated to reinstate Mr. Robertson. A number of conservative politicians are coming to the defense of Mr. Robertson’s right to speak his mind and the apparent anti-christian bigotry and double standards of the management of A&E. According to the National Journal:
In a statement Wednesday, A&E said it was “extremely disappointed” by Robertson’s remarks. But, for one reason or another, several high-profile Republicans are now coming to Robertson’s defense.
“Free speech is an endangered species,” Sarah Palin wrote on Facebook on Wednesday night. “Those ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.” Palin’s “intolerants” doesn’t refer to the guy who went off on gay people to a major American magazine. It seems to refer to A&E for suspending him.
But it’s not just Palin. “Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana,” said Gov. Bobby Jindal in a statement Thursday. “The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with.” He goes on:
I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.
There are many, many more comments in support of Mr. Robertson’s right to speak his mind. What we have been seeing for the last 5-10 years has been a flat out move to suppress anyone who disagrees with the Moonbat left in this country. Recently a judge in Colorado ordered a baker to make a wedding cake for a gay couple even though the baker was opposed to it for the same reasons as Mr. Robertson. The judge, one Robert Spencer ruled against the baker saying:
To allow Phillips to refuse to serve gay “weddings,” the judge argued, “would allow a business that served all races to nonetheless refuse to serve an interracial couple because of the business owner’s bias against interracial marriage.”
Which is a load of crap. What we have here is but the latest in a litany of politically correct garbage pushed down on people by the totalitarian left. Homosexual groups can’t get what they want through political means, (They keep losing the votes), so they run to their pet judges who then override the voters and shove their beliefs down the majorities throats.
Now, I’m not saying we should outlaw homosexuality, I’m not. I will state flat out that I don’t like it and I certainly do NOT like having it waved in my face. I choose not to knowingly associate with homosexuals, but I will also not stand by if someone from the homosexual community is getting beaten to a pulp. I will intervene and go after the assailants with all force necessary to stop the attack and I will testify against the survivors in a court of law.
However, I will not stand by and be forced at the point of a gun, which is exactly what is happening these days, to like homosexuality. While I’m not a practicing Christian, my parents were and I was brought up with certain values. One of them is “Live and let live.” Don’t bother me and I won’t bother you. In the case of the two “customers” who were refused service, then they should have just left and gone to another bakery. It’s called “Voting with your wallet.” It works surprisingly well too.
In the case of Mr. Robertson and Duck Dynasty, no one is telling the assorted Gay and Lesbian groups to watch the show. You don’t like what Mr. Robertson stands for, then DON’T WATCH THE SHOW! You have no right to force people to support your way of life. All you are doing is confirming what most people think of your groups and others on the left side of the political spectrum. You will use any means to get your way. This includes suppression of the rights of those who disagree with you and threats of violence, legal, (As in a court case similar to the one mentioned above), or illegal. (Riots, arson, etc)
Perhaps groups such as the ACLU and the Gay lobby should consider what life is like in other countries, such as Iran. There, they hang homosexuals. Here, we make fun of them, ignore them and just stay away from them. We will NOT tolerate violence towards them and I have little doubt the cast of Duck Dynasty would be there in a heartbeat, guns and all, if someone decided to do a little “Gay Bashing.” How about you do the same thing? Stop trying to shove your lifestyle on us.
****UPDATE****
And the remaining members of the show have thrown down the gauntlet to A&E with the following statement:
We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.
Now who didn’t see THIS coming? Obviously the politically correct idiots running A&E. I wonder if the holding company is publicly traded? Intentionally destroying your biggest moneymaker could be consider violating your fiduciary responsibilities to the shareholders.
