Another actor dies of an overdose

This could be a standing headline. Over the weekend, Philip Seymour Hoffman died of an apparent overdose of heroin. He was found with some 70 bags of the stuff. Hoffman starred in a number of films over the years, and one I saw him in was Mission: Impossible III

He was found in his New York apartment in New York. Here are a few details from Fox News:

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday of an apparent drug overdose at his Manhattan apartment. Police responded to the 46-year-old’s apartment in the West Village shortly after 11 a.m., police sources told FoxNews.com. A friend found his body in the apartment and phoned police. Hoffman was alone in his bathroom when he was discovered with a heroin-filled needle in his arm, law enforcement sources said.

Now Hoffman was a known addict, but had managed to clean himself up years ago. Apparently, he fell off the wagon big time. It also looks like he got a bad batch of heroin as well.

One police source told FoxNews.com that authorities are investigating whether Hoffman received a more potent type of heroin that’s being blamed for numerous deaths over the past two weeks, first in the Pittsburgh area and later along the east coast. The substance combines heroin and fentanyl, an opiate used to soothe the pain of cancer patients, and is being blamed for dozens of deaths across the country, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

This is a problem for all junkies, and yes, I do mean junkie. Drug pushers like to cut the heroin to increase the amount they can sell. This also lowers the actual amount some idiot injects into his or her body. The problem is what the pushers use to cut the drug with. They aren’t all that concerned with quality control. They have been known to cut it with baking soda, sugar, or in more lethal ways with rat poison. Basically, Hoffman gave himself what is known as a “Hot Shot.” As I mentioned above, Hoffman had something like 70 bags of this junk when they found him. Here are a few more details from ABC News:

Philip Seymour Hoffman was found with five empty heroin bag as well as many as 65 more bags that were still unused, police told ABC News. Police investigating the Hoffman’s death, apparently from a drug overdose, had earlier said they found 50 bags of the narcotic, but later sharply increased that figure. They also found used syringes, including one needle that was sticking out of Hoffman’s arm when his body was discovered Sunday in his Greenwich Village apartment.

This isn’t falling off the wagon, this is trying to destroy yourself and Hoffman managed do just that. This worthless loser had three children, but like addicts everywhere, didn’t even think about them as he shoved a hypodermic needle into his veins. This jerk had it all and he threw it away. In reading through the various stories on this junkie’s death, all I can see is various people saying what a wonderful person he was and all the good things he did.

BAH!

Addiction is a tough thing to beat, but people beat it all the time. I have nothing but respect for those who kick habits, be it alcohol or drugs. Yes, some people backslide, but there is help available for them, especially for those who have been clean and sober for 20 years. This wasn’t buying a bottle of scotch and going on a bender, this was someone who didn’t care about anyone but himself. I don’t know how much heroin comes in these packets, but I’m guessing that 70 bags worth is probably like a couple of cases of whiskey. You buy that much, you are on your way out and don’t care anymore.

No, I have no sympathy for this loser junkie. I do for his children who will now grow up without a father. At least he had the decency to off himself before he ruined his family’s finances, so his children will be taken care of by their mother. How much contempt to I have for this “man?” How about this little tune I came up with? Just sing it to the music of “Dead Puppies.”

Woody Allen Killed Philip Seymour Hoffman | Blue The Nation

I wonder. Is Philip Seymour Hoffman dead because he refused to do what Woody Allen has always done? Is he dead because as a man, as an artist, and as a public figure, he refused to let his neurosis get all over everyone and hurt people?
